Police need to ensure that no beggars in and around tourists attractions.
Good point. Unlike Kerala where most of the rich foreigners want to spend the holiday. TN is mostly visted by backpackers or middle class foreigners who want to moderate charge hotels, use public transport etc. So we must make the town friendly by putting english sign boards, basic informations, Contact centres in airport ,railway stations, hotels and give them details of the town, approved guide phone numbers. Also keep the city clean as dirty town will make them pack the bags soon. We should put up pictures of the histrory and flavour of Madurai in all important places . I read in a website where a foreigner paid Rs 500 as tips to an auto driver just for his warm service which was refused by the driver. This creates a good impression of the country and city.

First We must change route, destination and via etc (In Dual language ) on all town buses. A lot of buses at MAS & CBE are following Dual language policy. Why Govt side lining Madurai?

We must request TNSRTC (MDU) for the change.

I found some of the buses plying with non translated "ESI", "Town Hall" words and Aero(@MDU it will be Vimana Nilayam), Mills etc in Tamil Script. In Madurai U can't found even "colony" word but translated word like "Kudiruppu".

I didn't get what is your point. I saw an airport bus in which display board itself contains both Tamil name & English name one by one. Dhandapanik can update on this, as he only posted snaps some months back.

Yes Airport buses have english display. It is better to have dual language system in all buses.

Guys any one residing in Madurai can consolidate all the points discussed here abiut tourism and make a detailed plan and hand over the same to Madurai collector. I read the news how he has dealt with MIBT and saw its fresh look in SSC. I read in tuti thread that they have asked the commissioner to become a member of the forum. We can extend such invitation to MDU collector also.

New Multispeciality hospital opens in madurai

Vikram Multispeciality Hospital is being inaugurated today at madurai. The hospital is located in ring road junction near pandikoil.

From the picture, the hospital looks decent size. I hope they expand into much bigger in the coming years and add a medical college also.

We have lost NIPER Project proposed 2 years ago.

http://www.domain-b.com/industry/pha...education.html

Government plans 6 more national centres for pharma education and research news

01 October 2011

The union cabinet has approved the establishment of six new National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) at Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Hajipur, Guwahati and Rae Bareli, at an estimated cost of Rs633.15 crore.

Proposal during July 2009.

http://www.hindu.com/2009/07/05/stor...0557900800.htm

Rs. 200 crore project

Addressing the media, Mr. Jha said that the estimated cost of setting up of NIPER was Rs. 200 crore and 100 acres land from the concerned State Government was also required. “We inspected the two sites — Edaiyapatti has 266 acres of land and Ambalapatti has 300 acres.”

Apart from Mohali (Chandigarh) where the institute is established, NIPER is also functioning in Hyderabad, Hajipur, Kolkata, Rae Bareli and Guwahati. Madurai is expected to be the sixth place in the country.

Mr. Kaul said that if things were conducive, NIPER in Madurai would start functioning from the next academic year itself.

Vijay, I fully agree with your point of our fate. However, there is a small confusion (probably due to newspaper) in this issue. Current news states Union Govt approves six new institutes. Old news talks about already all others are functioning and madurai going to join the list.

I think old news is wrong since Union cabinet has officially approved now six institutes.

We lost one more project and it is our Fate. Cabinet Ministers from our state PC, MKA and others were keeping quiet in the meeting? Actually MKA and DMK lost its clout in central and so MKA kept quiet. PC himself agreed that he has memory loss problem. So he forgot the matter. Great.

If you compare both the news report, GANDHINAGAR has occupied our slot other existing locations may receive more funds through this initiative. Big NAAMAM and PATTAI for us.

I think our forum members who are in India, need to File RTI application on various issues involving madurai and get the facts. I am open to contributing fund for the same if our people take such an initiative and start filing application on various madurai related projects including this NIPER, AIIMS type hospital issue, Madurai airport customs and immigration status, foreign airlines who have shown interest issue etc.,

Any takers for this initiative?

Good initiative Ananth. Thanks for your interest. We need some organised people within ourselves to form a group or committee to take it forward.
We have been waiting for ages for so many issues like you mentioned and time has come to do something about it as much as we can.

You can add me in that group and like to extend full support and cooperation in this regard.

Thx for your instant support. Unfortunately I am away and difficult for me to file RTI from here. So I mentioned in my posting that I am ready to support financially. I expect our forum members who are based in India to take forward this initiative. I and you will be the the first people to enrol

Dear Ananth,
I think u have not seen the PM i sent you. You can file an RTI online being an NRI in the website,
http://www.rtination.com
I filed an RTI last week regarding the posting of customs and immigration officials at our airport.
Hope this initiative goes through well with our Madurai forumers.
