TNHB to build township with private sector

Quote:
The Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) will join hands with the private sector to develop housing colonies and townships in the state.

P Rama Mohan Rao, chairman and managing director, told Business Standard that since the Tamil Nadu Housing Board Act had been amended, the board could now work with the private sector. He added that this would also give confidence to the private sector to work with TNHB.

Rao said TNHB had huge land banks across the state where townships could be built. To start with, it plans to build townships in Chennai, Madurai, Trichy and Coimbatore along with the private sector.

In Chennai, it plans to a build township over 500 hectares in Poonamalle while in Madurai, the township may come up over 700 hectares.

“Our focus will be on lower middle-class and retired people who will invest Rs 15-20 lakh in housing. There is a felt need in these segments. They neither want nor can afford over 1,000 sft flat,” Rao added.

The state offers great opportunities for the private sector in tier II and tier III cities. By the year 2009, most of the towns will be connected through the national highways. This is expected to boost the growth of the economy in these cities and demand for housing will also increase, he added.

Paramount Plans To Buy 15 Boeing,Airbus Planes

Quote:
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW DELHI -(Dow Jones)- India's Paramount Airways Pvt. Ltd. is in talks with Boeing Co. (BA) and Airbus to buy about 15 aircraft - a deal which could be worth $1 billion-$1.5 billion at current list price as it seeks to start flights to Europe and the U.S.

"We are evaluating the Boeing 787 and Airbus 350," M. Thiagarajan, the private carrier's founder and managing director, told Dow Jones Newswires Thursday.

"We are also looking at the A330 because we understand Airbus has a tight delivery schedule for the A350 extending up to 2016," said Thiagarajan, speaking in a telephone interview from the Singapore Airshow.

More orders from Paramount will be a further boost to Boeing and Airbus which sold a record of more than 450 planes in India in the past five years. Indian carriers are buying new planes as economic expansion, the start of low-fare airlines and rising middle class incomes enable more people to fly.

Paramount, founded by a textile company based in the southern Madurai city, will announce the order in the next two weeks, he added.

Starting flights to key destinations such as Europe and the U.S. will enable Paramount to challenge Air India and Jet Airways (India) Ltd. in tapping the growing traffic from India.

Air India and Jet currently have flights to U.S. cities such as New York and Los Angeles, while Kingfisher Airlines Ltd. plans to start operations to the U.S. from later this year.

The carrier - which currently has a fleet of five aircraft - plans to use the new wide-bodied airplanes to start business class-only flights to Europe and Southeast Asia from 2010, said Thiagarajan, adding that flights to the U.S. will follow later.

The airline, which began operations in September 2005, will be eligible to fly overseas after completing the mandatory five-years of domestic operations.

Indian regulations currently require domestic airlines to have at least five years of local experience and a fleet of at least 20 planes before operating overseas flights.

"We will offer only business and first class seats on our domestic and international flights," Thiagarajan said, adding that the wide-bodied plans would be configured for this purpose.

To Order Embraer Jets

Paramount, India's sole business class-only airline, plans also to order 20 smaller jets from Brazil's Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica SA (ERJ), or Embraer, within a month, Thiagarajan said.

Each of the 75-seater Embraer 175 aircraft has a list price of $40 million.

The airline currently operates 2,000 flights each month with five Embraer planes of 70 and 75 seats capacity, he said.

Paramount will add one Embraer aircraft each in April and May, Thiagarajan said, adding that the carrier aims to have a 40-aircraft fleet by the end of 2010.

"We don't want to lose money for the sake of market share like the budget carriers," he said. "We are making money now and that's our business strategy."

Paramount, which connects eight cities in southern India, will start flights to cities in west India including Pune and Goa from May, Thiagarajan said. The operations will be expanded to cover north India by the second-half of 2009, he added.

Paramount is open to acquiring full-service, or legacy, carriers overseas, Thiagarajan said.

"But, we're not looking at buying any low-cost carrier in India as our business models are diagonally opposite to each other," he said. "There is no sense in buying them".

Indian media had earlier reported that Paramount was eyeing low-fare carriers SpiceJet Ltd. (500285.BY) and Go Airlines Ltd. which runs Go Air, but both SpiceJet and Go Airlines said they didn't have any plans to sell equity to Paramount.

Happy to see an amazing growth of a Madurai-based Airline PARAMOUNT....It's sweet to hear that It's going to be a tuff competitor for AIR INDIA and JET AIRWAYS in International connections...Also It seems to be PARAMOUNT spreading its wings to North India also.....If so...I hope the airline will connect their home city MADURAI with some important north indian destinations like New Delhi, Varanasi etc.,

Tiles near Madhanagopal swamy temple..

The following picture shows Tiles on the road leading to Madhanagopal swamy temple..

[/

I thought they were fixing tiles only along the 4 chithirai streets around Meenakshi amman temple. Now it seems they have taken few other places in the city. This is really a good move by govt. / corporation.

It would have been even better if they had laid the electric cables underground like how they did around Meenakshi temple before laying these cement slabs. But nevertheless its a good move by the corporation.

This model is different from one that Anniyan had posted. Since Ram has taken the picture at Madurai airport, this must be the final and authentic model of the integrated terminal building. It looks nice, hope the works are going on well and hope it would be completed before the middle of next year.

this one is entirely different from whatever anniyan has posted. I think that was one of the proposed models. I really liked the design as it had arrivals and departures at two different levels even at the aerobridge, which was even unique in the international arena. Even this one, though with conventional indian airport look, looks good with 3 aerobridges.

Yet, i feel atleast the tiling work has been done. Let them do the underground cabling when TNEB takes up the work for the entire city (it is in anvil). Had they had decided to do the underground cabling along with tiling, i really dont think it would have been done so quick, even for this small stretch. We know how 2 govt departments coordinate with each other in completing even a small project, after all..

It is always good that AAI has finalised and decided to construct this model in International look..we dont want old, conventional temple kinda look.

Since 100 years, people often tell madurai as temple city again n again, no industry is coming up n NO development. Many ppl thinks that madurai is a a tourist spot only with full of temples. Nothing else there.

We need to change the attitude n name, refer madurai to be an Industry city or Textile city or manufacturing city like salem or kovai.

Besides that old Raja Gopura model, this stylish look will give good impression abt madurai for international passengers and investers in future. "Chumma" Keeping temple structure in each n every thing is also boring one! Let everyone keep spiritual things with only temples. not allow to intrude or bring in business promotion and developments.

anyway, awesome efforts Ram!. thanks!
