I've always hated the thought on standing on one of these glass observation decks. Height for me is a love hate relationship, I love to see them rise but I hate the thought of being so high up. Imagine Ping-ans, looking down at 660 meters of nothing but air, terrifying!

Very similar to the protruding glass that juts out of the observation deck on Canton Tower. It was quite nerve wracking standing on it and that is only 450m high. Imagine standing at 660m!

True, but you won't stand at the tip of the spire where the height is 660 m. The observation deck will be at 555 meter above the ground. That is still more than 1/2 kilometer straight down

The spire begins at 598 meters. Height revision history went like this:
> 2009 no spire design with crown topping at 588m
> 2009 spire added, crown at 588m, spire at 646m
> 2010 spire adjusted to 648m, crown at 588m
> 2011 spire adjusted to 660m, crown adjusted to 598m

Then Shenzhen has a lot of 500m buildings already. Very bad renders.

They are usually circular because the shape is less prone to pit wall collapse.

That's a new one to me. And I had been wondering a long time about the circular frameworks around all Chinese skyscrapers. Can anyone explain the mechanical reasons why this is?
