On the other side of the street. But there's no hole yet.

What you guys can't see yet on the above photos (thanks for it) is that the next mega column is in place. They were putting the steel part yesterday evening on the spot. This morning the column was still connected to the new crane.
Another interesting thing, what I hear during the day once in a while is a loud BANG! It sounds like an explosion or if a huge dump truck is suddenly unloading. It is definetly the site of Pingan because I saw the dust cloud yesterday on the way back home after the loud noise. It was on the west side right beside the core.
Do you guys think that they blast the concrete rings on the basement floors?

Seems like even Ping An Finance Center is using the same method as the builders of Shanghai Tower, when it comes to the tower cranes... I remember previously, the cranes are usually stuck in the core but for these two, it's interesting to see the machines growing by the side instead...

What is the difference between both methods then, btw?

This thing is gaining height much qucker than I thought for such a massive structure.. Seems like a story/or floor per week.

I think I am beginning to understand these new construction methods.

They seem to be taking massive metal plates and pieces, limited in size by trucks, roads, and underpass clearances. They weld, bind, rebar, bolt, rivet these together to make one enormous I-beam, then they use these enormous beams to construct the core as one huge 3x3 9 square metal tube rectangular or square in shape.

They fit this with concrete over the outside using slip forms that creep up the sides, with very few holes for windows and such as this element bears huge structural loads.

Then depending on the design of the building they alter the outside to suit, super columns for Pingan, rings for Shanghai Tower, one enormous wide base for Kalifa, etc.

So it seems that these 600+ metre structures will become commonplace soon.

One super column core, a super column tube on the exterior to support.

When will someone create a third super column tube around the second, to raise heights to 1,000m and beyond?
