Unless Sky City was to beat it, then yes, it will be.

It only beats the massive crown of Shanghai Tower by a few meters with its thin spire

Holy crap! I never thought of this actually. In my mind this was 'just another supertall in China'. I never realised how much this thing is going to stick out of the skyline until now. Incredible!

That's a good description of how to obtain this height (generally a square building past 500 meters). There are a lot of great structural breakdowns of Ping-An though in this thread and on other sites. You're forgetting too that there are plenty of trussbelts and a few other components helping resist all that load too, but I'd still imagine a core with solid steel plating and crazy thick concrete walls gets most of the job done.

You could probably do a 600m building in other ways but since there's not exactly a lot of them yet, I wonder if the configuration will vary eventually. This does remind me of Sears (Willis) Tower's tube concept on steroids though.

That's right: the '3x3 squares' concept that's in the Ping An and ST cores, it's basically the same of the whole Willis Tower.

The bundled tube system is still the system with the most potential for building extremely tall. Glad to see it being implemented.

With the Willis Tower being on the inside of the building and then clad in load bearing 'skin', to add further support height and size. As though Sears Tower were the maintenance and elevator core.

It seems that the steel is red-brown when it comes on-site and when it is exposed to the whether for a few days is becomes dark-brown.

Yep, expecially when steel's destiny is to be drowned into concrete
