This one is quite interesting too. I am using google translate to translate those articles but it's still not very accurate. It seems that they say in the last paragraph that they will begin construction in the next 2 coming years? Is it? ;(

Article from SZDaily

How can I have missed this article?
I went to singapore last thursday until sunday and normally I'm reading the complete ShenzhenDaily every day to check if there are any news on PingAn building. And today, back from Singapore, I googled PingAn Building and found this Shenzhen Daily article

ShenzhenDaily : Aug. 21st:
Quote:
Work on cityís tallest building begins
CONSTRUCTION on Shenzhenís tallest building has begun on a vacant lot in Futianís central business district (CBD), the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday.

The building, which will house the headquarters of Shenzhen-based financial conglomerate Ping An Insurance (Group) Co., will cost an estimated 10 billion yuan (US$1.46 billion) to 15 billion yuan, the report said.

Excavators have started to work day and night on the 18,931-square-meter lot opposite the Coco Park shopping mall, which had previously been used as a temporary parking lot.

Ping An, which acquired the land for 1.66 billion yuan in November 2007, will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony later, according to Sheng Rui-sheng, spokesman for the company. Sheng declined to disclose the specific date. The skyscraper is reportedly scheduled to be completed at the end of 2014.

Ping An, Chinaís second-largest life insurer, will use its own cash to fund the skyscraper instead of obtaining a bank loan, Sheng said.

Sheng didnít disclose the height of the building. Previous media reports said Ping An planned to build a 646-meter, 115-floor office tower, which will supersede the 492-meter Shanghai World Financial Center as the tallest building on the mainland. It could be taller than the 632-meter Shanghai Tower, which is also slated for completion in 2014.

But Ping An denied such reports in February, saying it had no intention of building Chinaís tallest skyscraper. Regardless, the office tower will become the tallest in Shenzhen.

Shenzhen is developing the Futian CBD into a financial center, dubbing it Shenzhenís Wall Street, according to a government plan.

Since Ping An bought rights to the land in the Futian CBD in November 2007, 13 other well-known companies, including CITIC Bank, Guosen Securities and China Merchants Securities, have acquired land to build their office buildings in the area.

In addition, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange will be relocated to the CBD from the existing location in Luohu District. By the end of 2007, 92 of the top 500 global companies had set up offices in the area. (Liu Minxia)

See my formers messages, I have put an URL of a guy who pretends that the ground breaking ceremony would be held on 28th of August.
28/08 would make sense as it's a good chinese number.

That one was one of the contenders, but not the chosen design. It is just disclosed later than the actual design (the actual design is not supposed to be known by public even today)

Ground Breaking ceremony was held today!

As I was saying in my post before, referring to some informations I had found on the web, the ground breaking ceremony has well been held today!
I have been able to take some pictures when they were clearing the place from the ceremony structure!
We have some basic drawings of the building that looks more like the first proposal rather than the Foster proposal. But we can also see only 1 tower.

Then on the board you can see that they are supposed to start... tomorrow the 29th!

Here are the pictures I took!

That diagram looks so random, who knows. Maybe we still haven't seen the final design.

In my opinion it's very similar to the first design.

Yes, I agree. But it is very strange that they didn't use actual renders for the ceremony. That could mean that they haven't a final design.
