New York has 1WTC, 432 Park Avenue, etc. it is fine for having an Iconic Supertall, don't be greed and give chance for having a supertall building to the other cities worldwide.

Actually other cities don't need a change, they just make it.

You mean a megatall in NYC ,, If the FCC has a 2000 ft ordinance, (I've never heard or seen anyone REALLY confirm this) then let's see something like Ping An at the height of 1999.9 That would end the debate with the CN tower, Sears, and 432 and leave no ?, what is tallest in the Western Hemisphere. And a bldg like that deserves to be in NY,(where it would actually be followed thru with. Not Atlanta or Charlotte etc. or some other city, Chicago tried with the Spire, you see what happened there, now they have an 80 ft hole in the ground with no plans of anything. Replied to wrong user sorry ajosh, was agreeing with Yankee fan for life.

So the core is built with beams and then they weld plates to those beams instead of rebar, and finally they incase all that steel in concrete. Talk about a tower that will live for 500 years or more!!! Very impressive.

Is the core steel plating on each side of the beam or only on the outside?

Legally 3 days, but most people can enjoy a whole week off.

According to Notice of Public Holiday Schedule from the State Council, there will be three days public holiday for New Year’s Day and seven days for Chinese New Year Holiday. Detail arrangement is as below.

Holidays:
From 1st January to 3rd January 2013 for New Year’s Day 2013.
From 9th February to 15th February 2013 for Chinese New Year Holiday 2013.

As the switch, please note that the following compensatory working days are required.

New Year’s Day 2013: 5th January and 6th January, 2013
Chinese New Year Holiday 2013: 16th February and 17th February, 2013

I do not like the Chinese holiday system at all, but I can understand why they are doing it that way, as there are hundreds of millions of migrant workers who only go home once a year, during CNY! And CNY travel period starts long before the actual New Year's day and lasts for 40 days.
Quote:
According to Shenzhen’s Spring Festival Transportation Office, a joint office that’s coordinating Spring Festival travel, the city will handle 11.28 million passengers over the 40-day travel period.
It was also estimated that during the "real" holiday period from Feb 9 - 16 4.2m people will cross the border at local checkpoints. The streets in Shenzhen are currently pretty empty.
Ok, back to the topic. As I guessed before they kept working on PingAn. Now the mega columns on three sides have the same height, are connected with two beams on different heights with the core and have a diagonal beam at the corner and are connected to each other. The columns on the west side are still missing. A lot of welding at the core steel elements was going on this morning. The formwork seems to be at the same spot as it was before the holiday.

Are the shops in Shenzhen still open though? ie dongmen ped street and malls? It just goes to show how important CNY is to Chinese people

I like the shot above, its a new perspective with respect to the street and surrounding buildings
