Cranes already surpassing neighbors, that means it'll dominate the skyline soon! At first I wasn't really interested in this building, but now this is one of my favorite towers!

Interesting, so far I have seen images of Ping An with Kingkey 100 and Shun Hing square in the background and with Heung Kong Tower in the background, and now there are images with the East Pacific Center in the background. What's the next supertall to share a picture with Ping An?

The date on that piece from Wired is 3.21.13 - March 21st. That's about a week after it was first mentioned in this thread and a couple of days before the go-ahead was given to resume construction. It's an interesting read, but old news now.

I cannot fully understand the robustness of this structure. I was in Frankfurt on Tuesday and, when faced Commerzbank Tower, I was literally stunned with sheer size of it. I cannot imagine this being two times taller and wider.

I know what you mean. The tallest structure in this area is the Bremen TV Tower, which is 235.7 meters tall. It is HUGE when you see it and dominates a big area of Bremen. But when you compare it to Ping An, not only is Ping An already almost as tall (and about six times wider), it will almost be three times as tall when finished! Crazy.

At first I wasn't sure if you were serious or kidding. A typical high rise in China is only marginally shorter than the building you just described as huge. Now I'm beginning to understand a lot of Europeans lack of ability to understand the sheer scale of things here.

Routinely referring to Chinese cities of ten million or so with CBDs to shade anything in the EU height wise as " Provincial towns" To understand the word massive you have to experience it frst hand otherwise your only frame of reference is your own personal experience.

By the way, are the two huge green areas in the first picture of this page (the one in the background between Ping An and East Pacific and the one on the right to Ping An) just undeveloped land that is going to have more buildings on it or are they going to remain as park areas? The latter would be pretty cool.

my whole life i havn't seen tall structures. the tallest things here are only industrial chimneys. then one year i drove to frankfurt and loved the buildings, same year i went to singapore and kuala lumpur was pretty amazed, but thought the petronas towers looked kind of small, because on the way there i had a stop over at dubai and saw the burj khalifa just after it opened and also the petronas always had been my favorite building so i imagined them unrealistically majesticly call. it all comes down to perspectives in the end .
my time in china this year, i always even liked the "only" 200m tall buildings. the chinese friends, i was with, were pretty amazed by my knowledge when i told them this building will be the sixth tallest in the city and similar stuff

Usagi

Hope they are thinking about getting those cranes tied down tight. Hate to see progress stopped because of One57 type wind damage to them!
