There are several versions of the top section in the first post. In this one there is also a blunt spire.

it doesn't really have to end with the same angle though. they could just end it with an angled spire

Nah, it seems more like the tip of the spire is slightly out of border. You can see the black frame around the drawing cutting off the spire at the top.

As for the spires. It may look wide up close and be still needle from far away. Just look at burj (mind you both pictures are zoomed in quite a lot).

I personally like the shard like spire. It fits the design.

The bottom line is that even if you put perfect needle on top nobody would tell the difference anyway so why bother.
