Shenzhen is just at the start of a boom with many supertalls rising currently. only time will tell how this develops further. anything further than prep and app status is really hard to figure out if it actually will come into play at one point, especially since the supertalls are often planned as a pack of supertalls, so for example if the new Shenwan Station CBD gets a go, we will see 7 new supertalls rising, probably not at once, but step by step over quite a couple of years. if the area does not start at all, the number of proposals goes down by a bit. and that area is just one example. there is also the Qianhai area, which currently has an unsure future because of its closeness to the airport and rumors and other things, which has a much larger amount of proposed supertalls. Shenzhen does already have 9 supertalls under construction besides the 3 that are finished already. so Shenzhen surely will stay in the top among Mumbai and Dubai in number of supertalls. the only question is how crazy it will be and how quick a boom may come. most likely it is a steady progress and Shenzhen will slowly develop an ocean of skyscrapers, but won't shoot straight up over all other cities in the world. a healthy steady growth is what i expect, although i certainly hope that the tallest of the bunch won't all be late phase projects.
By your estimation which cities have the greatest number of supertall projects completed and U/C?

I can't get over how strong this structure is, could you imagine this building being built with only rivets,
I was wondering, is there a figure of the tonnage amount of the structural steel used in this building

Thanks to all and everyone, for the reconnaissance, photographic and otherwise, simply great !!

Is that a new steel column next to the crane on the right already or is that something else? If it's the former, we may have a new height already.

currently dubai and i think the first one to beat dubai would be mumbai and will probably keep the first place for a while. it is really difficult to say though. shenzhen might aswell be a possible candidate, but mumbai has a residential boom and residential towers often come in groups, so while shenzhen might get another megatall office tower, mumbai won't go that tall, but instead may build several more supertalls that just scratch the 300m mark and therefor it might take the lead. yet dubai is also still building and has over triple the supertalls finished than any other city in the world, so it will take quite a while for any city to take that crown.

Aren't many projects in Mumbai very slow and started before the financial crisis? The DB projects for example? And how many supertalls are getting prepared to get built right now, I can't think of one. On the other hand I don't know this much about Mumbai...
But if this residental boom goes on and didn't stop and Mumbai gets an office boom sometimes too then it will be unbeatable in the number of supertalls for a long time

Mumbai's current financial crisis will hinder its progress of supertall construction in near future, and it will take some time for it to get back on track. Shenzhen has lots of opportunity to beat dubai in supertall count by 2020. Tianjin and New York should give tough competition to shenzhen on the other hand

There are quite a few projects under construction there atm over 300m. Palais Royal, World One and a few others. I'm sure there will be many more that pop up in the near future.

589 meters. If you ask about Mumbai construction though the only building above 400 meters currently is the 442 meter World 1
