I don't know if the brownish stuff is plastic or not, in fact I don't care. It looks cheap, industrial and unaesthetic. If they don't want to clad the lower parts in aluminium that's fine, but they should chose a decent material.

Well, you seem to be the only one in here who has a problem with the cladding.

That "brownish stuff" is clearly steel and also looks like steel...

Directly under the spire. AFAIK it won't be as high as the observation deck in the Shanghai Tower.

I also hope they eventually clad the brown parts in the sleek aluminium. It ruins the clean look of the design.

Being the only one to openly criticize something doesn't make me the only one to think this way. Especially those who don't passionately follow this construction might not even notice this part of the cladding.
And I know that people have different tastes and it's impossible to please them all, but there is one thing you can't deny. This part of the cladding is a whole lot cheaper than the rest of it, and doesn't fit the smooth, modern look of the tower.

It's this stuff at the long sides of the supercolumns, Munwon:

The color is arguable, the first panels were covered in dust thus leading to a brownish look. Actual color is more grey/ grey-brown, but that doesn't matter at all.
What I dislike most about it is the profile, with these horizontal and vertical lines forming a grid. This, in combination with the material choice, makes it look ultra cheap to me. We have this awesome, high reflective aluminium all over the tower, and then at the corners we get this...

@Dubai Skyscraper: Look at posts 2232+2233. It's not the cladding.

Actually a good number of users has negatively mentioned the cladding on the sides of the columns in the past, and more will.

If you ask me it was already time for a skyscraper to be not-so-shiny.

Oh, how I wish you were right. At the beginning I was thinking that too, but then someone pointed out that the latest renders were showing these dark parts at the supercolumns. And he was proven right in the way the cladding was installed.
My last hope is that they will actually put something over the grey parts, no matter if it's black, grey, silver, or whatever. It should just contribute to the smooth, modern look of the tower.

I sure hope so. Because the brown parts are in one of the renders I saw.

The dark part seems the base for glass if you have a look there are holes in the cladding that are black, it could be an insulating layer, after all that would be concrete and no gaps for windows.

Yeah, I agree. At the end it all those black panels will be covered with façade pieces. What you can see right now is simply the bracket.
