It's just so weird. No architect in their right mind would think that black grid makes sense. Not to mention it looks the same as the inside of the cladding and it's very thin and insulation-like.

Some weeks ago, Ping'an was in one of the daily one-on-one competitions. I complained about the grid thing in the comments and someone answered, saying that on Gaoloumi they said it would be covered in dark stone or something. But the reliability of this statement is, well, zero.

The architect would have to be a real jackass to do that.

Assuming they do the cladding properly, this could be the best looking megatall in China, and possibly the world, imo.

I always prefered this bulky design over Shanghai tower, but as of now ST is lightyears ahead in every way.

Well, there are some. Shanghai Tower, Abraj Al Bait Towers, Zhongnan Center, Greenland Center, Warisan Merdeka, etc.

I actually think PingAn will look better than ST, as the shape is much more appealing. Shanghai Tower is beautiful, but its shape makes it look less like a building, and more like an monument. PingAn looks more like the archetypical shape of a building. The cladding is more striking on PingAn as well.

Those black panels remind me of the black panels on Mercury City Tower

High quality cladding is seen here, nothing in common with nasty finished Mercury City Tower.

The black bars take the design from a 10/10 to a 6/10 as part of the effect is seeing those clean unbroken aluminium surfaces rising 600 meters up from the base

The rebar in the core is a lot thinner now than on street level.

2 prudential? If so I see the relation. But then you would have to say it also looks like the Chrysler in New York, and liberty place in Philly. So I think this design is quite striking and original. Though I do like ST more.
