Ping'an uses what they called "reverse construction method", something like building the tower upwards at the same as digging the hole in order to save time.

Don't know if you can read it, translated by Google....

Quote:
Reverse construction technology is the high-rise buildings in the most advanced construction technology and methods

2. Principle

First along the axis of the building or around the basement construction of underground continuous wall or other support structure, while the position of placement within the building or supporting piles and lay the middle column, as before during the construction of the chassis back to bear weight and superstructure construction load support.

Construction of ground floor slab and the floor structure, as the diaphragm wall stiffness great support, followed by excavation of earth and pouring down layer by layer floors underground structures, until the bottom back cover. Also, because the ground floor level of the structure has been completed for the construction of the superstructure to create the conditions so it can also be ground up layer by layer construction structure. So on the ground, under construction at the same time, until the end of work.

3. Reversed Categories

(A) full inverse approach: The use of underground layers of reinforced concrete ribbed floor level on the formation of support around the building envelope. Pouring concrete for the whole floor, and then dig in the soil under it, through the floor outside the reserved holes into the earth next to the building materials.

(B) semi-inverse method: The use of underground reinforced concrete ribbed floor levels in the early placement of the cross-shaped rib lattice beams, the formation of frame format on the envelope level of support, pending the completion of earthwork excavation after the second pouring ribbed floor.

(C) of the inverse approach: within four weeks with a foundation to preserve the earth on the local level around the building envelope to resist the formation of offset part of the lateral pressure generated by displacement.

(D) stratified Reverse: This method is mainly for the surrounding envelope, is used for hierarchical inverse is not the first time that the overall completion of the construction. Inverse hierarchical structure is used around the soil nail retaining wall.

4. Technological features

(A) allows the construction of the building superstructure and underground infrastructure construction of parallel three-dimensional work, in building large-scale, upper and lower levels for a long time, can save hours of work about 1/3.

(B) good and reasonable force, retaining a small amount of structural deformation, and
therefore the impact on the neighboring building is also small.

(C) construction can be less affected by wind and rain, and earth excavation can be less or zero total duration.

(D) maximize the use of underground space, expand the basement floor area.

(E) a layer structure can be used as working platform plane, no additional excavation work platform erecting and internal support, this greatly reduced support and temporary facilities, large working platform, reducing construction costs.

(F) The excavation and construction of staggered, as the structure of their inverse load borne by the column and passed directly to the ground, reducing the large excavation unloading effect on the bearing layer, reducing the amount of resilience in the Mainland Foundation.

(G) in Reverse deficiencies, such as the Reverse position by supporting restrictions on basement floors, unable to adjust the height of the basement in case of a larger story, and sometimes subject to temporary support or increase the level of cross-section of retaining wall and reinforcement. As the excavation was carried out in the top of the closed state, foundation, also distributed in a number of intermediate support column and precipitation with a well point, the current lack of small, flexible and efficient small-scale earth-moving machines, so the difficulty of digging increases. However, these technical problems will soon be solved.

5. Economic

The inverse approach, generally the basement wall and foundation wall retaining wall using two forms of unity, while eliminating the need for a separate establishment of the enclosure wall, on the other hand the maximum extent of land in the works to expand the basement area, an increase effective use of space. In addition, the enclosure wall support system instead of from the basement floor structure, eliminating a lot of support costs. Floor structure and support system that can also solve the special architectural or partial floor flat shape caused by lack of support in the difficult layout and is more reasonable force. For these reasons, together with the total duration of shortening, which in the soft soil area for a multi-storey high-rise building basement, using reverse construction has obvious economic benefits. Underground structures generally can save 25% of the total cost to 35%.

6. Environmental benefits

(A) noise: Due to Reverse when the basement is used in the construction of the surface before pouring the whole floor, and then digging down to the construction, so the noise in the construction of the barrier due to the floor surface greatly reduced, thus avoiding the result of construction noise at night delay time.

(B) Dust: the usual means of ground treatment to open excavation produced a large number of construction dust, which affected the city's image; using reverse construction, because of its construction operations in a closed surface, you can minimize the dust.

7. Social

(A) transport: the surface because the inverse approach to support the bottom of the operating methods of construction, so traffic in the city are very useful in civil engineering, it can be opened in the ground where the road continues to carry out road underground work, thus avoiding Bypass traffic jams due to the loss arising.

(B) using the inverse method, +0.00 slab structure first completed structure itself can be used for internal support. Since the lateral stiffness of the structure itself is infinite, and the compression deformation of the supporting pile deformation demands relatively little in terms of zero. Therefore, we can fundamentally solve the supporting piles of lateral deformation, so that the environment is not to appear too large because of deformation caused by surface subsidence, foundation subsidence and other issues to ensure the safety of surrounding buildings.

(C) The reverse construction, underground continuous wall and the soil and the friction force between the adhesive force can be used not only to withstand vertical load, but also make full use of it to withstand the level of wind and earthquake generated a huge building at the bottom of the level of shear forces and overturning moments, thus greatly improving the seismic effect. China is a quake-prone Ou, earthquake prevention and treatment is essential, from the point of view for the construction industry, with appropriate construction technology can then Dizhendailai the Weihaixiangdi to the minimum, against the practice of Shi Gong Pian Juyou These virtues, Suo Yi In the deep excavation with extensive use of a wide range of social benefits against the practice.

Could anybody provide examples of other skyscrapers built using that method? Supertalls if possible.

Quite hard to understand from the google translation but this is very interesting! I would love to read an article on this in english!
But main points to me are:
- can save hours of work about 1/3.
- Underground structures generally can save 25% of the total cost to 35%.
- construction can be less affected by wind and rain, and earth excavation can be less or zero total duration.
- using reverse construction, because of its construction operations in a closed surface, you can minimize the dust.
- so the noise in the construction of the barrier due to the floor surface greatly reduced,
-

It says Chicago's Aqua Tower was built using this method. It says the tower was already 32 floors high when the foundation was completed.

I can provide a photo of the construction from above, but can not post attachments.

Let me know if interested

Beat me to it.

It's also known as "top down construction", and can provide significant time savings to the programme.

Why has the height on the thread changed from 588m to 648m? Is the spire going to be built? Wasn't it 646m before anyway?
