Where are you getting that the spire will be cut from? All I read is a poorly translated sentence about the roof height, I'm not really sure this says anything definitive. Could someone fluent with Mandarin settle this?

What I got out of it was that they needed special permission to even let the crane reach above 600m,there is no way they are going to allow a permanent spire if a temporary structure is treated that way. We should prepare for the worst.

Not going to happen. Shenzhen would never let Shanghai reach higher. Why would they approve 660m in the first place? China is not India..

If there was a design change this late in the construction process all work would stop. The fact they keep building tells me this is a bad rumor. Remember a few years ago when we thought they would have to demolish Ping' An because of bad concrete.

It looks like a lighthouse. I hope the rumor isn't true, and that some kind of spire will be built - but the one they have planned seems a real challenge to build.

Well, it's not an old rendering; it would have the gold cladding otherwise. I would only trust renderings on the architect and developer's Web pages.

Please tell me that's not true. The black parts on the columns ruin this tower enough already.

implying Chinese developers have a good habit of having their towers rendered in their actual surroundings...
If it's a legit rendering maybe it was made to showcase the change and not the context.

Clearly I'm alone here, but I like how it looks without the spire.

Shenzhen is very strict about height restriction. Remember what happened to China Resources Headquarters? That was only 500m, still got reduced to 400m. Pingan is lucky to rise 550m as it is now. If this one reaches 660m it will be a surprise

Chinese translation says that the at the height of 547m the cranes have peaked over the 600m .It is just warning the developer that they should have notified the relevant authorities that they had gone over the 600m mark .

The actual quote:

Quote:
Which roughly translates into "The project has temporarily breached the 600m mark due to the height of the construction cranes. The authority has made relevant aviation reports and the authority demands Ping An to limit the finished project under 600m.

So this sentence, in effect, is saying that although the structure has breached the 600m mark, the breach is only temporary and is due to construction needs. Therefore the authority will let it pass. But the last part of the sentence clearly implies that the authority insists that the finished structure must be below 600m.

So judging plainly from the sentence, it sounds as if the height of this project (going over 600m) has not yet been approved. But whether or not the "authority" is misinformed is another story.
