There might still be hope for the caiwuwei megatall and others in luohu though? a soft decrease in shenwan station to 500-600 m or so is pretty ok by me too.

According to the video, the tower was supposed to be 667m tall but will be reduced to 600m or less due to safety concerns for overhead aircraft. There is a height restricted zone of 6km around the airport whereby a 300m clearance is added to the top of each structure depending on where they fall within the perimeter (distance from the airport). In the case of this tower, it lies within the outer most region of 900-1200m plane to ground clearance, so if the original height of 667m were kept, add to that 300m and it would enter the 900m minimum clearance zone planes need to begin their final landing decent.

So this tower is going to stay at 660m?

Yep. If it's true that height has been cut, then to me it sounds more like "Thou shalt not build higher than Shanghai"

Still believing in 660
If the spire is really going to be cut off, then I must say that Chinese government is a really pathetic government. Does symbolism really matters in the modern world? Dose Shenzhen building the tallest building in China symbolized the final reduction of Shanghai's economic power?

As I mentioned before, the flight paths out of Shenzhen airport need to avoid Hong Kong airspace, so planes have to make tight turns if they depart southbound and veer into Futian district, where this skyscraper is located.

I really hope they can build higher than 600m in Luohu though,Caiwuwei redevelopment would look so badass with a 800m flatroof tower, its probably the best location for a megatall in the city too.

Macau airport is on the west side of the Pearl River. The delta has too many airports. I think Macau and Zhuhai airports should be the first to close with so few passengers.

Another forumer had posted the approach chart for Shenzhen earlier. Notice the sharp turn, the flight path over Futian, and the 90-degree turn (click here).

Since the "stick" on top start ~600m, they could just "erase" that.

Nothing new though...

It looks incomplete without the spire to me. The taper at the top of the building ends too suddenly. Changes the whole design of the building IMO and makes it a lot less elegant.

I know a solution to the problem. They should make the spire transparent so planes don't see it.
