Interesting - the sign outside the temporary plywood walls says it will be 118 floors and a total of 660m tall. That would mean the spire is still planned.

^Never got an answer: How on God's earth or whoever's Earth this is:
How does this happen? A 660 meter bldg, planned, then the City say's no 600 meters is the limit? HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN IN 2015? Help me figure this out. ( I dislike Spire's ruled as height, but this was necessary for this bldg,, this is just wrong, what happened to the plans of this bldg).
SSC forum members how can there be no communication between developers/architects and the Govt? Private Message me please let me know how this happens in this day and age.
I just can't comprehend how this happens? I"ve never seen " well anything like this",, in most instances cities, are grateful to have and promote the fact they are home to the 2nd tallest building in the world,,,
but permits, (paperwork in most of the world have to be pulled, and you show exactly what the hell your company is making).
Ping An should have been warned there's a 600 meter cap because of airspace,, "as much as we know and hear at SSC the Gov't didn't notify but, had an injunction when they recognized the cranes breached the 600m level,, so, that's when they tell them... " Change Your plan's"
Yeah that would Suck, for the engineers/architects and EVERYBODY...
So now we have to figure out how to change this shit at 590m and make it look Natural at 600m..
How does this Major degree of Miscommunication HAPPEN IN 2015?

Is there any reliable source which would clearly state that the height of the tower was cut to 600m?

The answer to your question is quite simple.

The reason for the success for the chinese economy has been the malleability of the rules regulations and government policies infact most businessmen would tell you most regulations are made as we move forward with business and as per the need of the business. Many approach the local party regarding issues they quickly resolve them by issuing a new dictum this has been highly a succesfull model helping lot of people set up new industries take up new projects thanks to these on the go policy making.
The downside of this lack of rigidity with respect of policies that can stand for more than 2 years is what you are possibly witnessing in this current discussion.

In the case of this tower, it lies within the outer most region of 900-1200m plane to ground clearance, so if the original height of 667m were kept, add to that 300m and it would enter the 900m minimum clearance zone planes need to begin their final landing decent.
If Luck!! If no 667....nothing!!

yes there are tons of official media who reported on the height cut. Even some videos footage of some people close to the construction during the top out ceremony talking about height problems and it was broadcasted on official news.

It's Chinese, so it's certain to light up like a Christmas tree once completed.

I hope not. It uses to be all the time true but now you can see more and more building in Shenzhen with nice and subtle night lighting.

I love the building up to 600 meters, looks better than ST to me, I was not liking it because of the spire. and they additional height. This bldg. and GF117, are going to be true height.
If You look at those 2 bldgs. they are most impressive.
But I have a problem with the false hope Ping An gave everybody who loves spires and PETRONAS type measurements.
They will be true rooftops and taller than Mekka's crescent moon.. To most that's impressive. and 3rd and 4th in the world.
In a Year I will have to change my signature to Ping an and Gf117, #1 skyscrapers
