You sure got to be kidding. The CTBUH came up with the megatall classification, it's not "made up by skyscraper fans here".

My disappointment is not because of this building being a little shorter, but in the rule that there may be limits imposed on other buildings in the near future in China.

You are right, I stand corrected. I had to do more research.

Here is a PDF with information

Heh, what about Golden Finance in Tianjin? At 597m does it deserve to be an honorary member of the mega tall club?

The final height might have changed, but the observatory will still be at the same spot; hopefully that means the top floor at ~555m. I will still be first in line to go up it once it's finished.

That's in interesting information, didn't know this till now.
I wonder if CTBUH will create a new category for buildings up to 900 or 1000m.
Hypertall perhaps...

For such a tower shouldn't the developers know about the height restrictions from the very beginning! I mean I like it spireless and I might sound silly but it is just weird bcz they would've changed the location to save the spire or something if they had previous knowledge about the laws and rules

Not sure yet if they will cut off the spire or not( most likely they will), still, that board on the construction site still shows 660m

Actually the spire on the very top of the Chrysler building (the part that was put on at the last second, which he was referring to) is a simple pyramid shape. Ping An's spire may be more detailed or just as detailed.

CTBUH made it official at least. We used "megatall" for 600m+ towers quite a time before already.

O.k i thought he would mean the whole spire top.
For me it were also on this extreme beautiful building not a great lost without the last pyramid spire.

Is this spire reduction official, not determined yet, or just a rumor? I have a skyscraper video coming up and I'm not sure whether to put this skyscraper at 600 meters or 660 meters.

That's called the crown. A spire is a stick-like structure.

There's another source considering the hight reduction by cutting of the spire. I think it's eliminate also the last doubts about.
(used as usually the google tanslator)

Quote:
Ping financial center height "shrink" dwarf 60 m height limit caused by air.
Spire height (canceled)
"Design 660 meters, is now 600 meters." There are users post, said yesterday, was originally designed for 660-meter-high safe financial center, the final height of 600 meters will be locked in. Southern Reporter yesterday confirmed the news from the authorities. The height of the "shrink", allegedly because of the high limit due to aviation...
Like also the other source said the hight limitation is blamed for this...

I'll just put 600 m or 660 m until it is official.

Anyways @Ch.W, here's a preview of that Skyscraper video I'm making. It should be finished by the end of this month https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVtGKBC_Ync

It shows your passion for skyscrapers and that you're in it with heart and mind!
And the music fits also very well and gives it a sublime atmosphere.

It was inspired by Adrian, who started the "Skyscrapers 20__ - The World's Tallest Buildings" series. He hasn't made a video since 2012 and I decided to continue his legacy
