600 meters is still quite impressive. Taller than anything in the western hemi. And I don't want to hear, or be bashed about Blanchard or any other stupid red and white antennae.

I read from a website where it says that this height reduction is unconfirmed and they might be building the spire after all, but it is only a post on a website. Also CTBUH has still not updated the height change, which is why I'm still puzzled about this "height reduction".

That low structure just looks surreal in the fog.

Maybe...i also found a chinese website where rumors circulate the spire would not cut off completely and they would ad a smaller version at the top. Anyway we will see...

Until we have more reliable sources, I still have hope for the spire.

There doesn't seem to have been much progress over the last 2 months - at least from the external appearance. I suppose people are just getting used its "being there".

Well if the spire design is built as per the original renderings, wasn't it "floating" over the core space? They can't really start it until the concrete is finished on the remainder of the steel megacolumns. Looks like from the recent photos that there's only a few floors to go so then we'll have to see if they just cap the building or start the spire.

Though they could also be erecting new steel and it's been a bit of a break since the tower topped out. Unless the risk of spire cut is real and they're debating that in the courts / against whomever is the air authority over there. Can't move forward until they get approval or rejection, but hopefully they're just delayed for something else.

I'd imagine they'll only take as long as is needed. If this building isn't moving (including much cladding work), someone's losing a ton of money every day. Hopefully we'll see progress soon.

I was worried by the thought that the spire is cancelled but I quite like the new design and think it's even better than before. The sharp angles that lead to an apex is in keeping the sharp criss-crossing of the steel beams going up the tower and compliments them well. It would be a disaster if they changed it to a flat-ish top but it still finishes in an apex which is as good as a spire. It also distinguishes it more from other skyscrapers as spires are common but I can't think of one which finishes like that.

I agree. Was never a great fan of the spire. But haven't even think about the "flat top version"...omg...this would be extreme ungly and wouldn't fit in the whole shape of the building.

It's like what Shanghai tower without swfc, jin mao and pearl river would look. Dense cluster, but all towers only about 200m and one giant tower. Can't wait for gemdale to help out
