In Chinese, we add “people" after any location refer to for instance 深圳 is Shenzhen in Chinese and 人 means people. So anyone who has a Shenzhen citizenship called 深圳人. This apply to all Countries, states/provinces, cities etc. Though Shenzhen is a first tier city in China, Shenzhen people don't really have a strong sense of citizenship or moral superiority since the city doesn't possess any history or tradition like Beijing or Shanghai. There is a slogan for Shenzhen "You become a Shenzhen citizen once you come here" 来了就是深圳人。

In case this hasn't been mentioned before; the Ping An topping out ceremony is scheduled for April 30th.

Fantastic. But if you know that it tops out in two weeks time then why does the CTBUH still list the final height as 660?

Very good question. The CTBUH has been asked to keep the height at 660 in their database until the final design has been officially released. There are still some issues to be sorted out. That's all I can say for now.

I hope "You become a shenzhen citizen once you come here" sounds much more catchy in Mandarin . Coz at least in english it does not ring well and its far from being catchy.

Remember when the media celebrated the topping out of Shanghai Tower a bit too early. In fact, only the concrete core was topped out at that time. Is the same going to happen here?

CTBUH isn't a infallible source. There are buildings in this forum not listet by CTBUH (for example search for Ningbo or Baoji...) or listet with obviously false floor datas. (the same thing here, you could count the floors but unless you have no official source the wrong data remains in the thread title)

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=971042&page=4
So that CTBUH hasn't already changed the hight doesn't mean anything.

some people may not know that admins from Emporis, CTBUH and SSP all are on this forum as well. Most updates come here first, but sites like CTBUH first wait for more credible sources often.

that said, I do not like all the triple work that we have to go thru. news come in about a height increase or decrease. the thread title gets changed. And then editors from the different websites change their database accordingly. I wish there was a better system. At least some sort of "newest changes in the forum" thing, so that you don't miss updates.

I think there needs to be one thread which tracks changes of different project status. Also a unified way to report them down . So one can easily search#pinganchanges in the search function and get a result that summaries everything in uniform fashion narrating him the story of the project.

I posted this in Shenzhen projects thread but copy/paste it here too

Shenzhen's Planners, Aviation Official in Dogfight over Building Heights
Southern city has grand development plans for its Qianhai zone, but airport authorities say too many tall buildings will imperil flights

Quote:
(Beijing) – An ambitious plan to turn part of Shenzhen's Qianhai special economic zone into the Pearl River Delta's version of skyscraper-packed Manhattan is being overshadowed by a battle between urban planners and aviation authorities over building heights.
A plan for the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone that was passed by Shenzhen's government in April 2012 says the area will be stuffed with skyscrapers up to 450 meters tall. In Guiwan, in the northern part of the zone, about half of the planned buildings will be 250 to 350 meters tall.
Quote:
The Shenzhen Airport Group authorities later told the Qianhai bureau that buildings within the economic zone should not exceed 153.72 meters. It did not say how it came up with this height.
An aviation industry analyst who asked that his name not be used said the Qianhai zone could have a serious impact on the airport if the original plans are used because it "will be filled with clusters of high-rises."
But an official with Qianhai bureau said that if the 153.72-meter cap is followed, it will significantly compromise the zone's development, the city's hopes to build a new landmark and land sales.
Quote:
In 2013, Qianhai officials commissioned an aviation research institute to conduct a study that found that the zone indeed lies within the protected area around the airport, but the researchers also said buildings up to 350 meters tall would pose no threat to flights.
The CAAC told the Qianhai bureau to review the study, and the height limit was revised to between 294 and 350 meters.
They mention Ping An too
Quote:
In 2007, developers planned to make the Pingan International Financial Center in Shenzhen reach 660 meters into the sky, but were later forced to scale down by 60 meters because a flight departure path is nearby.

with a height limit of maybe 350m we can forget to see a new landmark tower, but still a wall of short supertalls is better than everything canceled alltogether

I wonder what this will mean for projects in Nanshan (For example Baishizhou and Shenwan Station Towers)? I mean Ping An is even more far away from the airport and gets a hight cut to 600m, Qianhai is nearer to the airport and might get a 153m hight limit so at the end Nanshan could end up with something in between, for example a 400m hight limit...
