Don't understand why all the cry over spilled milk... The design look better with no spire.

If they would had decided to remove the spire but build it to 660m with a crown, probably very few would had anything to object.

Sure, it had lost a few dozen meters, but it gain in aesthetics.

I think its just a random wild goose chase kick started at Gaoloumi on a possible announcement of the final height on the grand may day

Yeah ok, fully gold would've been too much. This was a good alternative.

The glass was not supposed to be golden in the older renderings.

Agree. But my favorite "color" would be black cladding like the Willis Tower in Chicago. That would be really awesome

I'm not at all proficient in Chinese, but I don't think anywhere in those articles posted in post no. 9000 by Ch.W is it written that 600 mts. is the final height. The quote from the first article sounds contradictory, but to me it means the roof is over, the building isn't. One thing is for sure, it says "it has ALREADY (emphasis mine) reached 600 meters". As if they're not done yet.

Are those blue patches temporary advertizing or permanent?

This building would have never had golden glass. Only the columns would have had some sort of bronze-ish cladding material.

Come to see it, it is the best city in China. Amazing clean garden city, good air quality and more and more tall buildings.

Everyone work in the office buildings and live in the good quality tall apartments, shopping in the mega shopping malls and driving their good car in the best street. That is shenzhen, the real best example for new China.

Structurally topped out.

Let's hope for that spire. Seems there's still a chance

CTBUH:

On April 30, developers and designers of the Ping An Finance Center in Shenzhen, China celebrated the structural topping out of the megatall building, meaning that the highest primary structural element has been put in place. The KPF-designed building will not be architecturally topped out until it reaches its ultimate height (including parapets/spires). If built as originally designed, the building will reach 660 meters and is poised to be the tallest building in China, surpassing Shanghai Tower upon completion in 2016.

The Ping An Finance Center Construction and Development Corporation hosted a topping-out ceremony at the construction site, which was attended by Ping An Chairman and CEO Ma Mingzhe, CTBUH Chairman and KPF Principal David Malott, and more. There, attendees watched as the final structural beam was hoisted and fixed into its permanent position atop the building’s core.

The Ping An Finance Center began construction in 2010. Its structural design combines aesthetic qualities with efficient construction. The design aims to create a simple structural solution to withstand the severe wind conditions in Shenzhen. A core wall-outrigger-mega-frame with a super diagonal system provides sufficient stiffness to the tower, while allowing for an efficient, open floor plate for office functions.

With completion on the construction nearing, Shenzhen residents are anticipating a new hub for the growing city. Rail connections will integrate Ping An into both the city and the greater Pearl River Delta mega-region.

Find a selection of additional CTBUH resources for the Ping An Finance Center below:
