Its pretty amazing that two mega cities are so close together. Shenzhen is only 15 miles from Hong Kong. Now if when I visit Hong Kong I am going to Have to stop in at Shenzhen.

It exists because this is where the CCP (Deng to be more precise) decided to land the SEZ back in the late 70's.

Because is close to Hong Kong.

It was not a random choice. I think it was the best choice.

Yes one of the reasons but not 'because'.

Thanks for the photos. Well, this proves there was a massive change for the top of the building. This was the old design:

The old design. It was so cool... I think they had plans for a big restaurant up on top under that very high ceiling that goes to 572 m. Now it looks like the apex of the roof won't even get that high.

You sure the design has changed? That corner beam looks to be in that render. Not to mention at ground level it would look shorter due to the angle.

Corner beam looks similar, but it seems less of an angle. The structure in the middle looks to be a clear departure from the render - no more big open space between the top of the main structure and the apex of the roof.

EDIT: Hey, it just dawned on me, you may be right, Thatoneguy! If you take away that beam structure in the middle of Yann's photo - the part behind a greenish barrier above the concrete where there is a big opening - then you do actually see something close to what is pictured in the render! So it may very well be that the beam structure (obscuring the cab of the second crane behind) is TEMPORARY, and is a type of scaffolding there to support the construction of what is seen in the render (except for, I assume, the spire above about 600 m). This would also finally answer my question from 2 or 3 years ago where I wondered how they would be able to build the top, below the apex of the beams... the answer seems to be, a form of temporary scaffolding.

But like I said, the view from ground level could make the angle look smaller, and maybe that structure in the center could be temporary until they connect the apex.

I think we both came to the same conclusion simultaneously. Thanks!

I was also wondering whether some of the structure was temporary remembering that his tower has a large atrium at the top.
I guess we will see eventually. Another similarity with the SWFC I suppose. (design change, and temporary structure to hold up the permanent structure while the rest is built around it.)

It's still very similar indeed. The top structure is temporary. It would be dismantled once the roof is completed.

I don't understand where the 'massive change' is coming from? The photos look perfectly in line with the render.

And it's very strange that powerful Hong Kong has "only" 2 over 400m towers (412 and 484m) and no real plans to built at least 1 tower over 500 (better over 600) meters
If I'm wrong, please correct me

It all depends of where you start to measure, but also Guangzhou ( and the lesser Dongguan + Foshan) are really close. All these cities are more or less connected into one mayor urban area creating one of the most impressive densely populated areas of the world.
