I agree, this building is going to be the most sleek in Shenzhen when it's finished! Although I would prefer the tapered spire finish, because it gives the tower a more unique appearance

Hmmmmm that looks GOOD! Finally. Now the chances in favor of some kind of spire are... shall we say 60? Maybe 70 percent?

I don't know; I think maybe they have an idea to do something like a pyramidion - a gold topping to the pyramids at Giza, which was once what capped the Great Pyramid of Khufu. The new little triangle in the center could now get a shiny (golden?) covering.

Still not to say if a spire is coming. But at least we're at 585m now

A beam of light from the top of a pyramid cap like the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas would be cool.

Oh thank f*k it isn't a flat roof. I couldn't see any possible connections for new steel in the previous photos so I seriously thought it was going to be left at that.

All this spire stuff is so weird. A few month ago some chinese newspapers brought the story cutting of the spire due to the height restriction (the silly airport story...) That's when the mysterious started...thread title changed to 600m.
Than on almost every few pages discussions about pro and contra about the spire. 3 pages before the picture out of the clip shows a model with (probably, it's not that clear to see) the building with a flat top. The steel structure at the top suggested this strange possibility.
Now we see more new steel looks like they make a tappering top...
I can't remember such a drama about the top of a building.

The secret addition at the last minute of the spire on the Chrysler Building comes to mind.

Why?

The Chrysler spire secret had a point, since they waited for 40 Wall Street to be finished, and it was a race for the WTB title at that moment.

It could be considered a "race" for China's tallest building, but this was from the start proposed to be taller than Shanghai Tower, also the spire removal came up after ST was topped out... so the surprise element is only that it actually might end up shorter.

Really nothing similar to Chrysler/Trump situation... Is only wishful thinking.

True, but maybe he just meant that came to mind in general not like the spire on ping an is a secret, of course its no secret that it was scratched off the design too, but it would be a secret if they were pullin our legs and all along it was never to be removed?

I really doubt they are "pulling any legs"

If the spire will appear, it means the removal was never in question, and it was just an example of bad journalism.

It seem people like to create "drama" where is not the case (like conspiracy theories I saw here that it was a "ploy" to keep Shanghai Tower tallest in China. )

Ok, so maybe there IS a small glimmer of hope now for the spire: the orange crane base is at least as large as the other crane, which is sort of unexpected, if the orange crane's only purpose is to dismantle the blue crane.

The drama continues...
