Adding an unnecessary appendage is cheap and easy in the general design. Adding it in reality is expensive and unnecessary. Sometimes the economic realities of those actually building the structure have to take precedent over the wishes of internet forum posters.

Translation: the architects who designed Ping An are unable to calculate the actual cost of a spire. They added it to the building only to please skyscrapercity forumers. The height (and thus prestige) a spire can add is costlier than building real height. And, they backtracked from the spire for lack of money. Correct?

Ping An finance center,

You will always remember this day as the day you almost overtook Tokyo Skytree and almost became the second tallest structure in the world

I'd love to have my own private office in that pyramid on the top.
How can I reserve this room?

I don't think any translation was necessary. The designers added it, the builders deleted it. A reasonable explanation of why is financial. It really serves no practical purpose.

Its a beautiful building either way. Being individually "disappointed" because its not quite as tall as it could be is silly IMHO. Enjoy the pics of a spectacular building. Don't get hung up over the final numbers.

It's not that it's not tall, it's that it now looks like a pencil

What?! 599m?! They couldn't even have the decency to add 1m to make it a megatall? What an outrage!
