Is it possible to add the original spire much later on or is it now structurally impossible ?

depends on how much they changed the structure of the top part because of the spire cutting.

Someone should really glue a yardstick on top of the tower and convince the CTBUH that it counts towards final height.

Still 2m taller than TIANJIN Goldin Finance (597m) another building very close to megatall category.

The spire would weigh over 100 tonnes, so it need a strong structure under it to keep it in place. If they changed the top part to make it cheaper but less resistant, you can't add it later. (giant with clay feet) - A giant spire might look like a "cheep way to increase height" but is not actually that cheap.

It will have a big lightning rod on top so it will go over 600m (don't need a glued yardstick ) but CTBUH don't count those.

most tall buildings have those, but they don't count as final height. (most tall buildings would be taller)

you can see the LR for ex. on top of Tomorrow Square Shanghai.

A giant spire is not "that cheap", it's just several times cheaper than building real height.

Likely not impossible structurally, but once the crane comes down it is almost logistically impossible.

But building a building up to 660m, never was in discussion.

Because spires are very heavy, for example, Taipei 101 spire is 400 tons or WTC1 spire is 758 tons.

I put 100 tones very lightly, I estimate it would had weight 200-300 tons if built.

The building need a strong structure to hold in place something that heavy. Of course is not the same cost as entire floors, but is not "just a stick on top" like some people say. So they did cut some cost if they removed the spire and reduced the resistance elements on top that would had been necessary to hold the spire in place.

At least the 589.3m appears pretty often at gaoloumi in the last posts.

Ah, I see we have some discrepancies on the reporting of the final height. Does anyone have access to blueprints to verify the correct figure?

What a bummer.....

First I was really disappointed, because they cut the spire and it and it dwarfed 60m. But that 1 meter makes even a bigger difference than
the design change before. That one meter.....What a shame

I think I'm more sad that Shenzhen will never become the megatall mecca I imagined it would be.

You didn't quite understand, well it doesn't surprise me anyway. It's one thing to say "spires are very heavy" (huh?) another thing is to claim (quote) "The spire would weigh over 100 tonnes" only to add later "I estimate it would had weight (sic) 200-300 tons if built". When I write a piece of information, I usually add the source for that, or phrases like "I guess" "I believe" or so. No serious forumer would try to pass a groundless guesstimate for a fact. A source would surely have been more useful than the platitudes you added in your last post. By the way, the structure of Taipei 101's and WTC1 spires have nothing in common with the projected Ping An's.

Great pics! Now, to complete them, just wait till dark tonight, hop over the security fences at the building, run up the stairs to the top and get some great shots on the booms of those two cranes...
