the facade shape and everything about this building was designed to converge into a spire. Lets accept that . In anycase its still a tall building in the skyline.

Indeed, a design change this big halfway trough construction is worst case scenario. Especially when in the end the tower will look unfinished.

Here is how the CTBUH came up with a height of 599 m. for this building:

When measured from the main entrance; the height to the top of the pyramid is 592.5 m.
There is a sunken garden entrance on the NW side of the building which is 6.55 m. below the main entrance. According to the most recent CTBUH height criteria, the building was measured from the lower entrance, thus bringing the total height to 599.05 m.

that's not how it works. oone can just change the drawing of someone else. The illustrators have the copyright of their works. I don't know the illustrators myself either.

Man, this won't ever look complete to me without a spire. I don't care about it being over 600m, but it needs some kind of resolution.

Time for a rant :
No, the spire will not be built, but the pyramid on top is hardly horrible.
'The pyramid doesn't resolve the tower properly' is just bullshit. The pyramid continues the stepped taper inwards to a point, how is that not a resolution?
The spire did look nice, but it was arbitrary. It could have been 20m taller or shorter without significantly changing the design. If anything, it was actually too tall.
I see this as kind of similar to the SWFC where they changed the hole from a circle to a trapezium. That was when I first found SSC, and I remember a lot of people hating the change, now the round hile design just looks strange! This is a less significant change that I think everyone will get used to eventually.
Personally, the change I dislike is what they did to the megacolumn cladding. the black stripe down the bottom is just horrible!
I think the real reason why a lot of people dislike this change is because this tower no longer breaks the 'magical' 600m mark.
(Personally, I think 500m, 1/2 a km, is a better benchmark. Pretty sure the real reason for 300m/600m is because it is close to 1000ft/2000ft, units most of the world don't use)
Just because it isn't technically a megatall doesn't make it any less amazing.
Rant over, feel free to bash me.

It's still an awesome tower, no doubt. But to me it's just a pity they removed the spire and with it the status of a megatall.

In spite of my name, some buildings just NEED a spire. This building's shape was designed with a spire in mind. You can't just delete the spire and expect it will look just fine. You can tell by looking at it that something's missing.
