This building looks bad without the spire. I wish it had been kept.

It depends on the lighting. Ping An reminds me of the Washington monument without the spire.

I think it looks slightly out of place among much shorter buildings. I wish it was more isolated to enhance the effect. Imagine Ping An in the middle of a lake!

Is that the 'little sister' building to this one, which is rising in the plot in front of it? It's built above ground level. Is there a thread for this?

This last photo almost made me cry. It shows how much potential this tower had.
Even without the spire they could have made something from it, like canceling the silly pyramid on top... this is nowhere near as smooth as the spire, but still a thousand times better than what they did to this poor tower...

The spire would have been better but I like how it turned out until now, and unlike many others I really love the cladding (just the black parts on the base are a bit wired, I have to admit).
What I dislike about the tower is the location, because it makes all the other towers seem so small. A few higher tower near it would be great, and I don't think SZ-Center is enough.

they should build a signalizing rod instead of spire!
it doesn´t count the official height and it would be useful for the planes...

or:
if the height was such an issue, they could invent a mechanic spire/rod which would move down when plane comes...

It's still a mightily impressive building. I really don't see how a spire would improve on the design aesthetic. Having a flat top would have been quite frankly the worst thing ever.

It's a beautiful building nonetheless. Pictures don't do it justice but I do think it would look better with a spire. I need to remember to post the pictures I took about a month ago. I will go through Shenzhen again in a few days (on my way to Hong Kong). If I have time I will take new pictures.

It looks like Shenzhen´s government would care about many other things except the spire. Maybe everything isn´t as safe as this spire would be. http://www.theguardian.com/world/201...aste-collapses

Does it have or will it get led illumination?

The spire part would be compared to the rest of the structure. It's even possible they already made the pieces for the spire in the factory but now they are stuck with a 60m spire.

They did some tries of night illumination on the east side of the building it was huge like 25-30 meters high and looked as a TV screen. All the cladding contains LED lights fixtures. I just hope they won't do something too bright or too colorful. I would wish for something sober and nice... Don't have much hopes though.

This tower had so much potential Let's hope when its completed the mayor will be like "what did we do??!!" and orders the re-installation of the spire
