Absolutely vertiginous photos taken above the tower !

Axel, good shots
Hong Kong unfortunately has not any over 0,5 km supertall, but so close located Shenzhen has just Ping An tower - better this one for Hong Kong in someway than nothing, however I hope Ping An will addictionally impact on Hong Kong to have its own over 500 m supertall

It looks very incomplete without the spire. Did they run out of money or something?

I made my photos from Hong Kong with the view to Shenzen! Ping An is 10 kilometers away from this view point near Fanling, Hongkong. Its not impossible to make photos from Hongkong to China Mainland.

How rare is it for the smog to be dissipated enough to do that?

Many factories have moved away from this area due to rising costs and central heating is not popular in the warmer southern regions, so smog is no longer a major issue unlike in the northern provinces. Winter is more prone to smog while summers are usually crispy clear.

Why is there more smog in the winter? Isnt south China warm year round?

This is due to prevailing winds. Northern China gets a nasty bit of smog as they use dirty coal to heat their homes. Winds from Siberia then blow all that pollution southwards, so warmer places such as Shanghai and Guangzhou would be affected. I recall one spring we even got a dust storm reaching Hong Kong all the way from the Gobi Desert in Inner Mongolia.
