Hi all.

Hi Miami.

I don't think anyone is trying to be an *******.
Speaking for myself I'm just trying to share some knowledge.

Yes it seems like more lower levels will help support a tall structure but it is the foundation that supports the weight and resists the wind pressure. There is no need other than space for lower levels.

And you have to admit ...
Saying your looking at the renders makes you pretty sure of a foundation issue, sounds

No offense intended.

What I meant by that is that it loooks like the circle is in the square so to speak, meaning the building is [bigger], for lack of a better word, than the foundation. I'm saying that if they had just the circle part and had not touched anything outside the circle no way it wouldn't be a little risky. The circle is also thick, so to speak, I'm sure you have no idea what I mean by that, but it is.

By the way, what is the weather/storms like in that part of China? Is there ever high wind (100+) ever?

I don't know about the winds there - perhaps our local forumers can enlighten us.

I thought that those 8 openings around the outside of the holes were for the supercolumns at the corners? That would mean that the building is larger than the round hole and whatever foundation they will be making will extend under the lower level decks.

I'm not alway right but I know when I am, that circle is too small for that size of a tower.

Sorry wrong thread.

I was mixing up this thread with the ST thread.

You guys are right.

Koops brings up another point.
The piling has to be done under the supercolumn areas - their not going to be able to do piling there at this point. Makes me think all the piling is done and is waiting for more digging to be exposed.

Yeah the ST is a little different story. It looks like the hole is larger on that one and it has a much more aerodynamic design. We all know how it claims that it'll provide a 24% reduction in wind load, and if it turns out to be anywhere near that it will be a major achievement. I think that, and the american involvement (Gensler) is why it's so well known and popular. Gensler's cool he even has his photos under a free license on Flickr. Now he can gripe, or think it's neat, when he sees them on wikipedia

I don't know the exact specifics of the weather in southern China, but I do know that they face annual typhoons.

All I see is pictures from the construction site. Where can I see the final design? Is it really the same one as the one in the first page of this thread?

Ah okay, because I assumed it was the ugly red one (since it's the one that pops up everywhere when you search the Internet).

Sorry, that last comment of mine did look a bit arsey. It wasn't meant too, I was just giving my opinion. Not that that's worth much.

"while the workers were on break"

Are they just sneaking in or are they allowed to do that? lol
I mean, I would do it but not many people would.

It might not be they said "the cladding has been changed"
I'm assuming it won't be the unique gold color is what that means.

great pictures! Thank you!
Any inputs by any experts here? We can see what material they have inside the hole, what machines etc. perhaps we can guess what they will do exactly?

On IBD's picture we can see that they are making another floor. They are meshing the rebars together before pouring concrete. (I don't know if my vocabulary is right sorry :S )
