At this rate it would take about ten years to build, but I am assuming it will pick up when the foundation is done. That or it will stall.

No, that definitely cannot be bad. 25% is a huge increase in profit. Maybe they are insuring everybody involved in the tower construction

If that report is true and they keep going in that direction they will be needing more space soon and will have copious funding for development therefore I would expect to start seeing some real construction here soon. Having the tallest building in China can't hurt their marketing either

Yesterday evening I saw a lot of concrete-mixer trucks on the main construction site!

Video is slow and says new height will be 588m. Couldn't make out alot of the words because of the bad streaming, but 588m might be an old video. Looks like SZ is going to become a regional rail hub to Hong Kong which is probably one of the reasons slowing this project down. Still hope this gets built and eventually SZ will connect to Guangzhou.

Went by yesterday evening. Dump trucks were coming out of the main site loaded with dirt. So they are probably digging the 5th level.
Plus there is this video where we can see a bit of what they're doing down there.

Some activity also on the hotel construction site too. Digging dirt mainly.

Shenzhen-Guangzhou high speed railway shall open on 8th of August, 2011.

Precisely which rail and subway lines pass by the foundations of Pingan Centre?

The Hong Kong - Shenzhen section of the rail.
And the metro line 3 that should open in June this year.

Shenzhen Urban Planning Simulation room

Thanks to an invitation from "Planner Shenzhen" a contributor to SSC I've had the opportunity to visit the Shenzhen Urban Planning Simulation room.
It's a kind of small movie theater with a very large screen, around 3x8 meters.
And you can see many parts of Shenzhen in a fully modeled environment. That was really impressive.
They use this equipment to show to some officials how new projects would fit in the existing environment and to help selecting the most appropriate projects during competitions.
On one of the video you can see the different projects that were proposed for PAIFC.

It seems I can't embed the flickr videos inside this post so please go to this link:

Here is a picture of the screen.
