This is some pretty amazing stuff. I guess I'd stay glued to my computer exploring all this stuff for a few days if only had a chance to put my hands on that virtual city model.

How's the tower site been for the past week? Is it dead?

No it's not. They are digging further on the main construction site getting to the 5th underground level. Dump trucks full of dirt are going out of the site and concrete-mixer trucks are going in. Activity on the hotel construction site with more barracks added.

They use this equipment to show to some officials how new projects would fit in the existing environment and to help selecting the most appropriate projects during competitions.
On one of the video you can see the different projects that were proposed for PAIFC.

These 3 pictures are taken on the north-west corner of the main construction site, in fact it is outside the construction site. I don't really understand what they are doing. Would this be part of PingAn IFC?

Well I don't know chinese, but google translate "spire" to "尖塔" so I guess this article says that tower is 597m high to the roof and 660m with the spire.

Hi Pat.

That was my first thought as well - looks like soil testing happening.
If that is the case it's definately unusual after excavating 4 levels and all the work that has already been done. The podium piling would have required soil testing to determine size, spacing, and depth - why not do it all at once ?

Also - as I posted before - to not have done all of the piling at once before excavation is very unusual - for a number of reasons.

Perhaps they encountered some sort of problem ?

Ray.

Holy shit, when did they change the spire from rising 648 meters to 660? If its true this building will really put Shanghai Tower down to shame.

660 is probably height from sea level.
