and though it is a bit taller than the shanghai center, it still has the lower roof

I usually restrain myself from pointless comments but…

AWESOME

Simplicity is truly a winning formula in here. This will look spectacular.

great news! Project starts in first half 2009 and finishes Dec 2014. So Shanghai tower may not have a chance to be the tallest building in China.

I will check the site this weekend, it's great news, Shenzhen strikes back!

And I love the idea the tower is taller than the one in Shanghai. Competition is a good thing.

The height is amazing
But I love Kingkey more!
The spire is obviously used to beat Shanghai Center

Yeah, good cheater, but still a long way from The Pentominium...

The spire is too long, don't harmonise the building...

Hehehehe, wish Shanghai strikes back revising height upwards. Start a height race, please. In Chongqing all the big proposals have been racing for years revising upwards once and again for many times

I doubt that, SWFC developers still claim that the building is higher than Taipei 101, the "stick" on top don't bother them. I doubt it will in this case...

P.S.
I'm 6'1" so if a 5'11" guy with a big afro comes, I would still cosider him shorter than me...

Shenzen Supertall Aims To Trump Shanghai Center
Shenzen on the Chinese border with Hong Kong could get the world's second tallest building if a new development goes ahead.

The main building will be the new headquarters for one of China's largest financial companies, Pingan Insurance who are aiming for something truly big with a 115-storey tower that will reach 646 metres to its tip.

The scheme is a needle sharp tower with a pointed spire and strong stone vertical lines running up the cladding accentuating the height further and providing a contrast with the glass they stand in front of and the corners which are entirely glazed until it's peak. This is amplified even more by the gradual tapering the tower takes on it as it rises.

It's a shape that plays on the soaring shapes of iconic highrise buildings like the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building and is also intended to tip a nod to Chinese mythology by combining with the skyline to create a "dragons spine" outline.

At ground level it splays out and connects with a large public plaza with the entrances cutting diagonally into the foot of it. So large are they, a service road to drop people off by car also winds through the ground level.

Connected to it is a long six-storey podium intended to be a shopping with an hourglass footprint that also provides links to a second shorter tower that will be "only" 307.5 metres in height. This will be a hotel building.

There's an element of one-upmanship going on here. Despite being proposed later, the Pingan International Financial Center is being aimed for a 2013 completion whereas the now under construction Shanghai Center will be completed a year later.

why can this building be finished in 2013, but Shanghai tower in 2014? is shaghai tower much harder to build or something? or is it that underground wall that buildings need in shanghai to keep the water out?
