Lol at the umbrellas. They just need some beds to lay on and fill the holes up with water and there you go. Are they really building a hypermodern skyscraper that's gonna be taller than 600m here? The umbrellas suggest otherwise

I would like to have a look at the drawings for the building, but my guess is that it is a caisson foundation.
Pretty much similar to the Chicago spire.

That depends on when they hit bedrock or any strong enough layer to support the tower.

Both Zhujiang River Delta and Yangtze River Delta are made with mud, so I guess those guys will have to dig a little deeper. Maybe they will finally hit hard surface when they reach the foundation of 1WTC.

Hi all.

The piles could be skin friction if there were no bedrock at a reasonably shallow depth below the site - but this drawing shows otherwise.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

It looks like the piles will be just more than the hole depth.

There is still the question of will there be a level B5?
Also will there be a big slab poured to tie the piles together ?

This drawing seems to show both.

Ray.

Ray.

Honestly, I'm not an expert, but I can't imagine there isn't one (the slab). Megatals as we see them worldwide always have extremely thick slab (shanaghai tower, lotte super tower, burj, india tower etc). The towers load has to be somehow distributed on the piles, especially since the soil here seems to be rather soft.

Hey guys... some people said these holes look enourmous compared to any other supertall's foundations. But then, I went way back in time in the Shanghai Tower thread and noticed THIS:
