I think its more better to merge Kozhikode and Wayanadu on population basis than joining PTA & KTM into one. Otherwise lets combine all the districts in Malabar with Kozhikode as dist HQs

All malabar districts are bhai bhai. There was hardly any such issue came up in malabar. Neither of the district here gets unhappy if other get a good project.

If you mispell kozhikode, we will think u MISPELLED it!. What else we can think? You are free to mispell it anyway .

Hey guys, Why all are fighting here? This is Palakkad thread and its unforunate, there is no Palakkad guy to keep the thread running. Its gracious that our fellow friends are keeping this thread alive. But at the same time, we must protect this thread from diverting to Non-Palakkad based topics here....

Considering the amount of investment gonna happen in Palakkad, I wish we should make this thread too sticky.Economically and population wise it is in par with Kannur and Kottayam.

When land availabilty becomes the primary criteria to establish big projects in Kerala, Palakkad has a very good chance to grow industrially than many other cities in Kerala.

Palakkad Collector identifies land for IIT - THE HINDU - July 1

PALAKKAD, JULY 1. The District Administration has identified four locations for setting up an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). It had proposed the setting up of an IIT in the district after the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Arjun Singh, had assured the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, recently that Kerala would be sanctioned an IIT.

According to the District Collector, Sanjeev Kaushik, the first priority is to the 550-acre plot under KINFRA in the Kanjikode industrial along the National Highway between Palakkad and Coimbatore. The other areas identified are in nearby Parali, Kodumbu and Pirayiri.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) being sanctioned by the Centre to the State will be established in Palakkad, said Mr Elamaram Kareem, Industries Minister.

He said here on Thursday that the biggest challenge the State was facing now was unemployment and this was caused by the inability to take industrialisation in the right direction.

There was no modern industrial ventures being set up in the State and the traditional sector is also in the throes of a grave crisis. The Government is going ahead with the necessary measures to reverse the trend and only by enhancing the technical skill of the workers could the State march forward, the Minister said.

Palakkad emerging as a new investment destination

Progress: BEML's complex at Kanjikode in Palakkad

The Kanjikode-Pudussery-Walayar industrial belt in Palakkad is likely to emerge as the State's new industrial investment destination as the decks were cleared for the rail coach factory.

The foundation stone for the coach factory is expected to be laid shortly.

The construction of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) promised to the district may also begin if the State government takes a a final decision on the matter.

BEML unit

BEML units in the district will also accelerate its industrial growth.

BEML Limited, formerly called Bharat Earth Movers Limited, conferred with mini-ratna status and under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence, is a multi-technology company offering high-quality products for diverse sectors of the economy.

The company started its Rs.250-crore first phase manufacturing complex in the Kinfra Integrated Industrial area at Kanjikode in 2010.

For its second phase, the State government has notified the acquisition of 600 acres of land at Kanjikode.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony had shown special interest in bringing the BEML units at Kanjikode.

The industry circles here said that the BEML units will accelerate the industrialisation of Palakkad in a big way with its diverse products.

The chairman and managing director of BEML Limited says that the company has drawn up a ‘Vision-2013' with an ambitious growth rate of 12 per cent CAGR for crossing the Rs.5,000-crore turnover by 2013-14, coinciding with BEML's Golden Jubilee Year.

BEML plans to cross Rs.10,000-crore mark by 2016-17.

An integrated textile park is nearing completion on a 300-acre plot nearby. The park will house major textile units, officials of the Industries Department say.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony had announced the setting up of a defence park in collaboration with the Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) at Kanjikode, which has 100 acres of land in its possession.

The State government had allotted 100 acres to two private companies to set up an IT (Information Technology) park in the Kanjikode-Menon Para area.

The recent proposal sent by District Collector K.V. Mohankumar for a mini-airport at Palakkad under the Central government's new scheme of connecting district headquarters with the State capitals is under the consideration of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

These projects are expected to give a fillip to the industrial development of the area.

The Kanjikode industrial belt is the second largest industrial area in the State after Kochi. High literacy rate, adequate power supply, highest road density, and availability of skilled labour and peaceful industrial climate are attracting entrepreneurs to the area.

Industrial townships

The concept of providing an integrated industrial township to entrepreneurs with single window clearance was tried in Palakkad in the nineties. The Kinfra-Wise Park and the new Kinfra Integrated Textile Park are examples.

The government's decision to promote industrial parks under public-private partnership will be a boost to the industrialisation of the district, says M. Paramasivam, president, Kanjikode Industries Forum. The proximity of Palakkad to the industrial city of Coimbatore and the textile city of Tirupur gives it added advantage. “Thus Palakkad has strategic advantage compared to any other town to become the new industrial investment destination,” said K. Pankajakshan, former president of the forum.

Guys, I needed your help in knowing approximately how much it will cost per sq. ft for a house/flat in Palakkad. I checked out Builtech's upcoming flat in Pirivusala called Builtech Avenue and they quoted Rs. 2300/sq.ft. I believe that's a little on the upper side for Palakkad. Any idea? As I've been living outside of Palakkad, I don't have much of an idea about current real estate trends here. Please do share your views

ന്യൂഡല്ഹി: പാലക്കാട്ടെ കഞ്ചിക്കോട് റെയില്വേ കോച്ച് ഫാക്ടറിക്ക് അംഗീകാരമായി. വ്യാഴാഴ്ച ചേര്ന്ന കേന്ദ്രമന്ത്രിസഭാ യോഗമാണ് പൊതുസ്വകാര്യ പങ്കാളിത്തത്തോടെ പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കാന് അനുമതി നല്കിയത്. 576 കോടിയുടെ പദ്ധതിക്കായി ആഗോള ടെന്ഡര് വിളിക്കും. ആദ്യം അലുമിനിയം കോച്ചുകളും പിന്നീട് സ്റ്റീല് കോച്ചുകളും ഇവിടെ നിര്മ്മിക്കും. ഫിബ്രവരിയില് തന്നെ പദ്ധതിയുടെ ശിലാസ്ഥാപനം നടത്തുമെന്ന കേന്ദ്ര റെയില്വേ മന്ത്രി ദിനേഷ് ത്രിവേദി കഴിഞ്ഞ ആഴ്ച പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിരുന്നു. കേന്ദ്ര അനുമതി കൂടിയായതോടെ കോച്ച് ഫാക്ടറിക്ക് മുന്നിലെ കടമ്പകളെല്ലാം കഴിഞ്ഞു. 30 വര്ഷത്തെ കാത്തിരിപ്പാണ് ഒടുവില് യാഥാര്ഥ്യമാവുന്നത്.

രാജ്യത്തെ നാലാമത്തെ കോച്ച് ഫാക്ടറിയാണ് കഞ്ചിക്കോട്ട് വരുന്നത്. നിലവില് കപൂര്ത്തലയിലെ ആര്.സി.എഫ്., ചെന്നൈ പെരമ്പൂരിലുള്ള ഇന്റഗ്രല് കോച്ച് ഫാക്ടറി എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലാണ് കോച്ചുകള് നിര്മിക്കുന്നത്. റായ്ബറേലിയിലെ ഫാക്ടറി നിര്മാണഘട്ടത്തിലാണ്. കഞ്ചിക്കോട്ടെ ഫാക്ടറിയില് രണ്ടുവര്ഷത്തിനകം കോച്ചുകള് നിര്മിച്ച് തുടങ്ങാനാണ് ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. കയറ്റുമതി മുന്നിര്ത്തി ആധുനിക സൗകര്യങ്ങളുള്ള ഹൈടെക് കോച്ചുകളാണ് കഞ്ചിക്കോട്ട് നിര്മിക്കുകയെന്ന് പറയുന്നു.
