PALAKKAD: The State Government will provide houses for all those who are displaced and will formulate a rehabilitation

The Government would also provide a fair value as compensation to the people who lose their land. Ottappalam ITI Opened..........
The industrial training institute (ITI) sanctioned by the State government at Ottappalam started functioning in the old Vaniyamkulam bungalow of the German missionary Herman Gundert who wrote the first Malayalam-English dictionary staying here in the early 1870s. M. Hamza, Ottappalam MLA, said Excise and Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan inaugurated the institute. He said the government had sanctioned Rs.3 crore in the State budget for starting the institute, out of which Rs.2 crore would be used for constructing a building on land to be allotted by the Vaniyamkulam panchayat. Mr. Hamsa said the bungalow, still maintained by the Evangelical Mission, was of great historical importance. |

Coir Board plans cluster in Palakkad:
Express News Service First Published : 17 Oct 2009 01:57:00 AM IST Last Updated : PALAKKAD: The Coir Board proposes to set up a coir cluster in Palakkad under the Centrally-assisted Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) at a cost of Rs one crore which can provide employment to around 1,000 people, said Coir Board chairman V S Vijayaraghavan. Addressing mediapersons here on Friday, Vijayaraghavan said that 26 chosen coir clusters which bear a sustained employment of around 13,000 artisans had been conceived in the country. "The total outlay for the scheme is pegged at Rs 20 crore. Of the 26 clusters, four have been allotted to the State which will be in Chirayinkeezhu, Mangadam, Vaikom and Beypore", he said. Vijayaraghavan said that the Coir Board would seek the approval of its Director Board to set up fifth cluster in Palakkad under the SFURTI scheme so as to provide necessary support to the coir entrepreneurs in the district. He said that the scheme, once implemented, would provide for creation of common infrastructure facilities like dye house and manufacturing units with modern equipment. De-fibring units The Board also plans to set up more de-fibring units in the Northern parts of the district, especially Palakkad. He said the districts of Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur and Palakkad contributed to 44 percent of the total husks produced in the State. Vijayaraghavan pointed out that the total husk production in Palakkad district accounted for 218 million nuts per annum and as of now, lions share of the husks were wasted or used as fuel. There is a potential for the establishment of 44 defibring units in the district at 60 percent utilisation of the coconut husks available in the district. The setting up of more de-fibring units in the Northern districts of the State where coconut husks are available abundantly could mitigate the shortage of raw materials being experienced by the export oriented units at Alappuzha. Golden jubilee celebration The Central Coir Research Institute (CCRI) at Kalavoor, Alappuzha, is celebrating its golden jubilee year in 2009. The year 2009 has been declared by the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) as the International Year of Natural Fibres and coir being a natural fibre it is proposed to celebrate the year to coincide with the golden jubilee celebration of CCRI. Vijayaraghavan said that as part of it, a technological exposition of coir industry by inviting representatives from all coconut-producing countries will be organised at CCRI styled 'Coir summit 2009'. "It is expected that all member countries of Asia Pacific Coconut Community will participate in the celebrations", he said. Revival of de-fibring units Vijayaraghavan said that currently 56 de-fibring units established under the Integrated Coir Development Programme by the Government of Kerala were defunct due to a variety of reasons mostly due to outdated machinery. The Board has taken up the revival of two units in Palakkad district. The unit at Thenari was being revived at a cost of Rs 20 lakh which could be replicated by the State Government using its own resources in other parts of the State. |

GoK decided to merge the panchayats of Kovalam-Vizhinjam, Kazhakkuttam-Menamkulam, Sreekaryam, Vattuyurkvau, Kudappanakunnu-Chettivilakam with TVM city. However Vizhinjam is not contiguous with TVM city. In order to make it contiguous, the panchayats of Venganoor and Kalliyur should merge with TVM corporation.
Kozhikode is expanded by adding Elathur, Cheruvannur-Nallalam, and Beypore. It is also better to include Feroke, Ramanattukara and Kadalundi to Kozhikode corporation. Kochi corporation should be expanded by including municipalities of Maradu, Thripunnithura (incl Tiruvamkulam), Thrikkakara, Kalamassery and Eloor; along with panchayats like Kanayannur-Chottanikkara, Kumbalam, Kadamakudi, Cheranallur, and Varapuzha. Aryad, Mannancheri, Kalavoor, Komalapuram, Pathirapally, Mararikulam, Punnapra, Ambalapuzha, Karumadi, etc need to include in Alappuzha. Aluva should be expanded by merging Edathala, Keezhmad and Choornikkara. Tiruvalla can be expanded by merging Kuttoor, Othera and parts of Peringara Chengannur cam be expanded by merging Mulakkuzha, Puliyoor and Tiruvanvandoor Pathanamthitta can be expanded by including Mylapra The following panchayats also need to upgrade as Municipalities: Kattakkada, Kottarakkara, Pandalam, Harippad, Kanjirapally, Erattupetta, Koothattukulam, Piravom, Chowera (merging Chowera, Sreemoolanagaram, Kanjoor), Nedumbassery (merging Nedumbassery, Chengamanad), Wadakkancheri, Alathur, Mannarkkad, Tirurangadi, Vallikunnu-Tenjipalam (merging Vallikunnu, Tenjipalam, Chelambra), Karippur-Kondotty (merging Kondotty, Karippur, Pulikkal, Nediyirippu, Pallikkal, Vazhayur), Panoor, Peringalam, Manjeshwaram |
