it's a shame that they invest that much in Jakarta but not in Surabaya (the second biggest city of Indonesia)
The toll roads in the Surabaya (in fact it's just around 50 km long) area are much worser than in Jakarta, and especially since the Lapindo disaster which broke the highway between gempol and porong. Before that, they had plans to extend the highway to Malang, but that's gonna be a long term project. And i'm still wondering when they will be finished with the new highway connection between porong and gempol. It's really f*cked up to get in Malang or vice versa.
Well, there's one good thing. When i was in indonesia this summer, they were building gasstations in opposite directions @ the tollroad and hopefully they made some good restaurants/cafe's over there as well. (like starbucks, a&w etc.)
But i think it (the infrastructure) will change since i heard that Surabaya will get about 16 new gasstations of the foreign company Petronas. (Pertamina lost their monopoly position) And these Petronas gasstations will be included with food/drinks stores comparable with starbucks, a&w, kfc and mcdonalds instead of the old gasstation without almost any service.
The infrastructure inside Surabaya is also much better than before and especially the environment around the cityroads.

Does anyone knows if there's still coming a new highway from yogyakarta to banyuwangi via malang? I heard there were some plans to build this highway but im still wondering why nothing happens.

Is it all about the money? (and corruption)

Funny like hell,,, Surabaya is currently constructing some innercity highway and 5 km+ brigde using toll-system :p~ ....

Hmm, they are (right now) building an airport highway (if I'm not mistaken, it is the elevated highway)

true, but i've seen them building that already since 2005 i think. Not really fast progress...(or should I say budget problems?)
A reason that they build the highway is of course to improve the infrastructure (since Juanda airport's passengers is increasing a lot every year) but also because of the new terminals (constructed in end 2006) which are located on the other side of the airport. More space to build and to expand and to attract more traffic
