I have no idea what this sign says, something about less speed or something.

Telephone number to call to get information about a mountain route ahead:

The first one means literally:

Driving less fast = less expensive. (Driving slower = cheaper).

Yeah in Ontario on the 401, if there are no major delays, the VMS signs just remind people to buckle up, not to drink and drive, and watch out for motorcyclists.

In Bratislava (Slovakia) these electric signs are everywhere on all motorways warning of jams and showing speed limits ahead:

In Slovenia this sign shows information of this bridge:

In Italy on A4 these signs warn drivers to keep their speed control:

This one:

Actually means there's no more LPG at that service station!

In Belgium it's mainly the ring road of Antwerp that has these matrix signs a lot with speed indicators (by the way, I think all of the signs we've seen here are compulsory, none of them are suggestive) and several motorways where congestions take place each day are also equipped with them or with a mobile text displaying unit.

Greetings,
Glodenox

It makes sense because the rest area was overloaded, there was one sea of waiting cars at that gas station. Luckily I didn't need to gas up. My French is not that good, I thought "plus de GPL" meant "lots of LPG".

at croatian boards there are signs indicating extraordinary cases (jam, speed limit or similar), or when conditions are normal, there is allways time, temperature and often some paroles, for instance "keep distance", "turn the lights on (in tunnel" or similar. often in last time i see announcment about buying toll collecting machines (telepass, telepeage..., we call it enc)

Greetings,

Doesn't it technically mean "more LPG"? I'd expect it to be "pas plus de ..."

They've left 'ne' out, because 'plus' is in the beginning of the sentence. And furthermore, why would they put it on the overhead sign that there is more LPG at the gas station? That doesn't make sense. Putting on there that there is no more LPG makes way more sense. I think that Glodenox has translated it right

but don't blame me, my french is horrible

We also have approx. 85 of these in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro. During rush hour they normally list times to certain interchanges, but here is one in winter...

We also have variable toll signage:

The ones in South Africa that I'm aware of:
  • The Johannesburg/Pretoria area has quite a few, most notably on the Ben Schoeman highway between the two cities (which is where kulani's earlier pic was taken). Not quite sure what they display, as I haven't been that way for a while now.
  • The Huguenot Tunnel on the N1 outside Cape Town has electronic signage displaying all sorts of traffic conditions within the tunnel itself.
  • Every single toll plaza in the country has overhead electronic signage indicating which lanes are open and which are closed. Not sure if this really counts though.
  • The last time I drove on the M4 here in Durban (which isn't that often), I noticed some electronic signage boards. They weren't working at the time though; I suspect that they had just been installed and were yet to be switched on.

There are not too many of these here in Stockholm; I wish there were more! The ones we do have though list accidents, closures, etc., and a few months ago they started trials on a few specific ones with something I really like, saying the driving times to different exits.

In NL there are some near highway intersections, they are often very useful and give you info about jams, and when there are no jams, they just warn you to wear your seatbelt or to take a break after a few hours of driving.

But from pictures and videos that I've seen, dynamic speed limit signs in NL seem to be located on all the motorways at extremely close intervals (looks like a few hundred meters between them). That's pretty cool.

980 km of the Dutch motorways had electronic signalling in 2004, which is about 40% of the total motorway length. There were 102 VMS's in 2004.

For Spain:

In Spain they use to put warnings on the electrnic traffic signs like these:

"While driving, no single drupp of alcohol"

"From the 1st of January this year, 1699 people died on the roads"
image hosted on flickr

Or just to welcome you

Speed Control via radar

We have them in Bulgaria also mainly for indicating or for example what number to dial if an accident happens
