And we finish off with our old favourites - the Chinese. Any excuse is good enough for a parade for them. And why not I say!

Here's the big dragon that I missed on Chinese New Year. Apparently it's name is Sun Loong and it's the longest Chinese dragon in the world at over 100 metres!

And that is the end of that strange spectical! In case anyone was wondering the building with the clock tower is the Melbourne townhall, the church is St Paul's Anglican Cathedral and the building opposite is the Westin Hotel.

Thanks again and see you next time.

The Latin American community of Melbourne is so under-rated! The Johnson Street Latin American Festival is amazing fun!! Greater Melbourne is home to the largest amount of Latino's outside the continent itself! (Obviously, Canada and the US has much larger communities)

ANZAC Day 2008.

From one parade to another I now present Melbourne's ANZAC day parade.

ANZAC day is held on the 25th of April every year and is the main Remembrance Day in Australia and New Zealand for those who sacrificed so much for their countries in war. Part of the commemorations is the parade, which in Melbourne heads from the CBD up St Kilda Rd to the Shrine of Remembrance. I attend every year to watch my grandfather and the other diggers march.

After the parade I head to the mighty MCG with my family to watch the annual ANZAC Day match between the Collingwood Magpies and the Essendon Bombers. This game averages an attendance of around 90 000 fans and is always an exciting spectacle.

One moving aspect of the ANZAC Day match is the playing of the last post just before the game starts. It is certainly an emotional experience to stand amongst 90 000 people - all whisper quiet - as the sound of the bugle echoes around the stadium. I'm sure most had their minds turned to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we could enjoy the freedom that we have today.

In this case the freedom to watch my beloved Pies thrash the Bombers!

Another part of the ANZAC Day match is the delivery of the game balls by armed forces parachutists.

The MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) is one of the largest stadiums in the world, seating 98 000 spectators.

The light stands are reputably the highest in the world at over 70 metres.

Thanks guys. Collingwood massacared Essendon by over 70 points!

It's the best season for photo taking in Melb at the moment (autumn), I hate having to go to work when there are so many good shots just waiting for me out there!

More Moomba!

Managed to find some extra Moomba photos, these of the carnival and water skiing down by/on the Yarra River. Also thrown in is a bit of Federation Square for good measure.

ACMI or the Australian Centre for the Moving Image was the first of it's kind in the world. That is - a sort of museum for movies, television, computer games and other modern mediums.

The carnival stretched out on both banks of the Yarra, in Birrarung Marr Park and Alexandra Gardens.

And to finish off, some friendly local police officers.

Autumn

Autumn

image hosted on flickr

In my opinion Melbourne is at it’s best in autumn. The air begins to get that crispy bite to it, the trees begin to put on their magical display, restaurants bring out the gas heaters and the footy season is in full swing, advertised by the many team scarves that pass you by on the street.
It’s the perfect time to catch a show, visit a gallery, tour a museum, or just meet up with friends for a coffee or pint of stout.

Autumn is truly a great time to be alive and young (or young at heart) and free to taste this wonderful city’s many virtues.

This is Mont Albert road in Melbourne's leafy eastern suburbs. There are many streets like this in our city, some much more spectacular than this one.
