by the way, "Prahran" is an odd word. What is the origin of it?
Wikipedia says:

In 1837 George Langhorne named the area Pur-ra-ran, a compound of two aboriginal words, meaning "land partially surrounded by water." When he informed the Suveyor-General, Robert Hoddle of the name, it was written as "Prahran."
It's fun listening to people try to pronounce it.

"Puran" or "Peraan" is probably the best way to spell its proper pronouciation.

I'm back!

This is the Maroondah resevoir, one of Melbourne's water storages. It's locates in the Dandenong Ranges just east of the city.

Here you can see of our cute and cuddly native fauna: a sleepy koala, some lazy roos and a couple of wallabies. I took these at the Healsville Sanctuary; a native wildlife park in the affore mentioned Dandenongs.

Toggle anchors.

Yesterday I went down to the hardware store to buy some toggle anchors. I needed them to attach the new shelf that Justine bought for our shower.

Afterwards I went for a pleasant stroll around my local neighbourhood in the Spring threatening sun.

This is some of what I saw....

My apartment building.

Couldn't go anywhere without a map and some sound advice.

Beautifully decrepit and ecentric.

The Red Lion Hotel. Or at least it used to be.

A Melbourne institution. Come here for the half-price double billings; and the choc-tops of course,

Almost bought a two level shell in the top two floors of that building before we eventually settled on Melbourne Terrace, the banks wouldn't lend us the money for it, bastards!
They thought it was a fire risk with restaurants and bar at the lower levels.

Nice little trip you took us on gappa !

Sometimes it is eerie looking at your thread, gappa. At a quick glance it could easily be in Toronto. It is shocking how similar Victorian/Edwardian colonial architecture developed half way around the world.

Probably a good thing...two mates of mine bougth there and are now wanting to move because of the noise.
U actually can hear the music in Revolver at 11am on a Sunday and all the drug crazed nutters smoking fags in the smoking pen out the back.

I probably would have tolerated it, but my wife, well that's another story.
Anyway after what you posted, I'm now glad that the bank didn't lend us the money.

Spring beckons to the Melbourne CBD.

Last Sunday was a day for a stroll. My stroll was through central Melbourne....

image hosted on flickr

I got off the tram right near the new recital centre and MTC theatre. Only a few more months and we should be able to get some interior shots.

image hosted on flickr

I continued on through southbank; a hive of construction activity and one of Melbourne's new faces.

I then crossed over this bridge and into the traditional CBD.

It was such a beautiful day to take photos of Melbourne. Our city is such a wondrous blend of the old and the new, the tall and the short, the beautiful and ugly, even the beautifully ugly.
