Sorry for not posting lately, I've had a bit of a computer meltdown over here. But all is cool now that I have a brand new shiny Intel Core Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz with 4GB of memory and the entire Adobe suite (After effects, Bridge, Device central, Drive, Encore, ExtendedScript Toolkit, Extension manager, Flash CS4, Illustrator, Media encoder, On location, PHOTOSHOP, Pixel bender, Premiere, After effects and Soundbooth).

I promise to go out and take some piccies and post them within the next week!

Hopefully I'll be able to check out some of the great threads here again too.

Here are a few from last year just to show that I haven't been an absolute shut in!

Did you know that Melbourne is a UNESCO City of Literature? Well it is although I'm not quite sure what that entails exactly.

Nice ones gappa. Great to see Myer and ANZ from that angle. That new PC sounds like a beast! I'm so jealous right now.

I'm not sure what being a 'UNESCO City of Literature' means either Gappa. I guess it means we have a strong history of producing literature that is of global importance?

I know there's only 3 cities that have been declared a 'city of literature'. One is Melbourne, another is Edinburgh, and I can't remember what the third one is.

City of Literature
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
UNESCO's City of Literature program is part of its Creative Cities Network which was launched in 2004[1] The Network was born out of UNESCO's Global Alliance for Cultural Diversity initiative which was created in 2002. Its aim is to "promote the social, economic and cultural development of cities in both the developed and the developing world."[1] The cities in network promote their local creative scene and conform to UNESCO’s goal of fostering cultural diversity.[1]

An important aspect of the "Creative Cities" concept is that the cities foster public/private partnerships particularly by encouraging the entrepreneurial and creative potential of small enterprises. Literature is just one of several categories of Creative Cities. Others include music, film, media, gastronomy, crafts and folk art, and design.[1]

[edit] Criteria for Cities of Literature
To be approved as a City of Literature, cities need to meet a number of criteria.[2] In essence, these are:

Quality, quantity and diversity of publishing in the city
Quality and quantity of educational programmes focusing on domestic or foreign literature at primary, secondary and tertiary levels
Literature, drama and/or poetry playing an important role in the city
Hosting literary events and festivals which promote domestic and foreign literature;
Existence of libraries, bookstores and public or private cultural centres which preserve, promote and disseminate domestic and foreign literature
Involvement by the publishing sector in translating literary works from diverse national languages and foreign literature
Active involvement of traditional and new media in promoting literature and strengthening the market for literary products.

Well it might be closer to two weeks than one but here are some more pics as promised.

This bunch is from a fishing trip that I went on for my Friend's birthday last December in Port Phillip Bay. Although the snapper weren't biting at least the views were good!

Melbourne is lucky to be situated on such a beautiful body of water. The bay is home to colonies of penguins and seals as well a friendly pod of dolphins (sorry no photos)!

As you can tell, Melbourne is situated on some very flat land and to me is very reminiscent of cities such as Toronto & Chicago in the way it rises out of the water.

On our way back to shore this odd rainbow hovered in the sky.

Stay tuned for some photos from central Melbourne.

Pretty much. Although Feburary is still summer down here and one of our driest months so it wasn't that much really. I think the CBD had about 20mm in half an hour whilst some suburbs had up to 60mm.

Can't believe it's been nine months since my last post.

In my defence I have been busy in that I just recently got married to the beautiful Justine.

Here's a few phots from the wedding with a bit of Melbourne in them:

And here's a few photos of the recent AFL Grand Final Parade (which my team was participating in). This event occurs the day before the Grand Final and is a chance for the fans to see their heroes up close:

My team - the mighty Collingwood Magpies - went on to win the premiership but only after a draw in the first final.
