^yeah but as we have said many times that 600m+ would only consist of 3 bldgs. maybe in 20 years it maybe worth creating but for now we should look at 500m.

Hm, dilemma.

Half a kilometre is also a nice number. And while there are just 3 of the buildings higher than 600 metres, let it be 500+.

I voted for 600m+, although there are only a few buildings in this category now, there will be more. I'm here (on the forums that is) for the long term and can wait as time will reveal more proposals, approvals and construction of these 'Megatall' structures. We should be confident that if we choose 600m+ there will be plenty to write and read about in the not to distant future.

500m for Megatall.

OR

100-300m = Highrise
300-500m = Supertall
500-750m = Megatall
750+ = Hypertall

i'm still for 600m for megatall but i really have nothing against it to make a section for 500m + towers

Think a megatall should begin at 600

i think magic half a km high is a good height for mega smega tall.
yes 600m is a good figure only because its near imperial measurement of 2000ft, but these days and future is all about the metric system wether you like it or not.
For those who said how if we do except 500m as megatall, then Taipei101 is only one in group atm but isnt worthy. i dont know about that.
Its official height of 508.5m was nearly 60m/200ft higher then its previous title holder (Petronas), which is a fair jump. obviously not as much as burjD.
Also Taipei101 is a great achievement as it was first skyscraper to surpass half km high. yes there were antennas higher (Sears,WTC) but there not official and never recoginized as intregal part of structure.
Anyway are we gonna make a descion soon?
why dont we have a TEST and see how the 500m+ section goes?
no harm done.
seems like people are getting upset about the other poll increasing supertall up from 300m to 400m. but many seem to like idea of another tall category for superduper talls.

300-599 sounds like a good range for supertalls.
600m+ for me.

Either make it 500 m+ or hold off until there are more projects to warrant a 600+ forum. Creating another forum for so few projects just seems like a waste of index space. Even a 500m+ forum might be a little sparse as of now, though maybe not so much soon.

An option I would like better than any of these though is to have one construction forum with subforums for more various different heights at the lower levels – to perhaps make viewing them a bit more manageable and so otherwise worthy projects don’t get lost in the mix. Since that’s only reason I can really see for adding more forums to begin with and since other sections already have so many subforums, I find this a more attractive alternative.

I think 500+ is a good choice. We dont have enough 600+ u/c skyscrapers to discuss about. A 600+ would be more of a construction update thread as there wont be enough pics to even post as all r u/c and not completed..

But there is a significant size of 500+ u/c to discuss on..

No, I think Megatall should start at 1km. Right now we only have supertalls. I say leave it as it is.

yep. (if you live your life by someone else's rules)
just do what I do, highest occupied floor. makes much more sense. and we can all be happy.
suggestion:
supertall-300m - 499meters
ULTRA tall-500m - 699meters
hypertall- 700m +

why not to make a 500+ seccion if it is convenient for this forum?
But don't call it megatall. Megatall is 600m

Why not just wait until there are enough buildings for a megatall section at 600m+, and in the mean time just separate the 500m+ supertalls into a separate thread labelled something like "500m+ supertalls".

but 600+ bldgs arent going to come along every week. there a once a year if that and thats ony proposals.
cncity-YES i agree, that was my original idea months ago when all this happened with dividing up 300m+ projects. I wanted a CONSTRUCTION section which was separted from propodsals. this is where all confusions and mix ups are. theres just too many.
Atleast with construction section, you know there actually underconstruction not just an airy fairy vision or far out proposal.
maybe thats the answer?

I chose the second option. I think they should be taller than maybe even Burj Dubai to be considered a megatall. But with all of these huge towers being built, I would bet in the future we will be seeing a new taller category of skyscrapers.

I think 600m, but we can also change the height of supertall to 400m and add this category of Megatall for more than 750m

Then let's wait.

What's the problem? Personally I'm a frequent reader in the supertall-section and I didn't have any problems so far. If you simply want to divide the supertall category, why not start a "supertall 500+" section? Does it always have to be a new superlative?

As for the mere label "megatall" I don't see how that could ever be only 500+, as there is a 800+ tower already under construction. We shouldn't assign such labels only for the sake of cleaning up the forum. "Megatall" means a new future, not something which already almost common.

And I wouldn't have a problem with a 600+ megatall category that only contains a few projects. I mean those projects are very special, so that's what they deserve: a bit more attention than the "usual" projects.
