I reckon that 600 Meters does the job Richard AKA Culwulla.

Because iff you see how many serious proposals there are, then you can safly put the limit at 600 meters.

Cheers at skyscrapers all around the globe

IMO, 500m should be the starting point for megatalls, since it's 1/2km and most of the world uses the metric system (it's called SI for a reason you know).

Definitely 600 meters. That's twice as tall as a "supertall." Also, Taipei 101 seems to fit with the likes of the Sears Tower more than say the Russia Tower. Sears Tower people are always trying to argue that it "looks taller" than Taipei 101. No one will be saying that with the new 600 meters that are being built.

Huh? why do you need to do that? I mean if u give that name just for the forum sake I seriously think it doesn't make sense

Alot of 600m++ proposal coming up soon within the next few years.come on, AL burj, Mubarak tower, the Al-Mah tower (forget the name, only know height is 1022m) korean Rail Corp and Icheon twin tower?

Also I like Megatall being 600m because that is the height restriction in US currently, its just make sense any building hitting this height should be name as another category beside supertall

So to reinforce my final suggestion is that

Lowrise - 0-50m
Midrise - 50-100m
Highrise - 100-150m
Skyscraper - 150-300m
Supertall - 300-600m
Megatall - 600-1000m
Hypertall - 1000-1600m
Ultratall - 1600m+

in my opinion it should be:

-Hight Rises: 100m+
-Supertalls: 300m+
-Megatalls: 600m+
-Ultratalls: 900m+
-Hypertalls: 1200m+

Dude the world dun use 1/2km to measure distance, they use 1 km. And i personally feel 1km sound much nicer/neater than 500m (dun forget metric always focus alot on the unit name every 10^3 factor, like nano, micro, milli, metres, kilo etc, not 1/2 factor.)

I believe also in metric system, that why i suggested a category like hypertall should be 1 kilometre tall, which is more approriate also

For example, you have skyscrapers that are 100m and 200m but you don't call them different just because one is twice the height, same goes for supertalls. A 600m building is still a supertall.

Once over 300m, special attention in the design process is usually given to what happens at this height, the effects, etc. This is why IMO there's a special category for buildings over 300m. I think the burj dubai is still a supertall because it still functions like a conventional supertall, it's just a very tall one.

I recon once you get over another height (maybe 1000m) you'll probably come to another jump in how the tower functions, is build, etc. Such things might include a new system in transporting people, new materials being needed, and so on.
I voted 600m but this is a very good point.

I think we should follow a system in which each category = 2 x previous category
Highrise - 150
Supertall - 300
Megatall - 600
Ultratall- 1200
...

That way each category will be really significantly cooler than the previous one.

Like a virtual city. It should be massive enough to reach that height.

We can leave them in this section until there will be more of them, but still recognize them as megatalls.

I say 500m + is a megatall. As has already been established, there is simply not enough proposals over 600m to warrant the 600m + title as megatall.

600 meters

I say 600m becouse there are already skyscrapers at over 500, and id like Megatall to be something new, the next level. And indeed the first one would be Burj Dubai closely followed by several more possible buildings projected for the next decade.

Brendan:

The problem as i see is that it isnt enough difference between 300m and 500m. If 600, there would be a more noticeable and indeed powerful difference.
