if we have 500m we can start the new forum, but if everyone wants 600m, then forget i even started this thread.lol
You see cul, i dun think the term and requirement to be a supertall is defined for the sake of forum uses. I mean lets be more professional, we dun change supertall as and when we like do we?

I agree that its too early to start megatall now, please lets wait till at least 2010. I believe 30+ proposal of that height will be coming in at that time. I mean lets make the new term "Megatall" a challenging feat to achieve in human architecture. All those that surpass this height (600m+) should be acknowledge with special recongnition or something.

0 - 50m = Lowrise
50 - 100m = Midrise
100m+ Highrise
150m+ Skyscraper
400m+ Supertall
1000m+ Megatall
Agreed, on my other forums a Supertall is now defined as a building taller than 400m not 300m.

I would however say 600m+ was a Megatall and 1000m+ Ultratall

Better still, we can call anything above 600m a "Sky Tower"

I'll put that proposition to the council of tall buildings and see if they'll go for that!

I'm all for a new section, but...

I think that using a SI unit (mega) as the next level ___tall is a mistake. However, something like a hypertall should be 600 meters. That is an achievement. The half kilometer mark is significant, and using the metric base ten system that we do, it makes more sense, but my gut is telling me that 600 is better. It could just be because the Chicago Spire, my favorite U/C building, would always stay on the front page, but, what can I say, I'm a sucker for Chicago architecture.

ok, so if we go for 400m for supertall and 600m for megatall, then we have to create another section for supertalls.
and megatalls for now can be lumped in with them seeing theres only 3.
So what does everyone think? if we increase supertall height what are bldgs called that range from 300-400m/ superwannabees?
let me know and we;ll create a 400m+ supertall section and transfer relevant threads.
maybe we will forget about megatall section for now (600m+) and wait a few years until we have enough numbers to create that section?
So should i create a poll- Should we increase height to 400m+ for Supertalls?
and see how we all vote?

The height of the supertall should not be based on your ability to accomplish and update your illustrations at the beginning of each month. Rather, it should be based on the height an ordinary person would perceive as a supertall.

Since we expect more very tall towers to be built soon I would propose to multiply by 2 the value of every next category. It is convenient to remember the exast value for each category when you know only one of them.
Besides it's not good to change the value of already existed categories.
The names of new categories can be changed.
150 - skyscraper
300 - supertall
600 - megatall
1200 - ultratall

I think it would be more convenient for our forum to make 500m for megatalls now. But it is ONLY now. Let's think about future..

Other proposed categories are more difficult to remember. And this is important when non-professionals (journalists, for instance) call the towers correctly.

ordinary people aren't interested in skyscrapers.

everyone is placing list over here, so I'll join the club. Here what I think:

0-50 meter: lowrise
50-100 meter: midrise
100-300 meter: highrise
300-600 meter: supertall
600-1000 meter: megatall
1000-1500 meter: ultratall
1500-2000 meter: gigatall
2000+: hypertall

Categories are one thing. Your diagram is another one. For your convenience you can compose, for instance, 412+ diagram or any another one.

My point:

400 m = Super
600 m = Mega
800 m = Hyper
1200 m = Ultra
