Maybe you can draw a line at 450 meters. Just in between 300 and 600 meters. Put al threads above 450 mtrs. in a new catagory and name them al supertalls. The 300+ thread and the 450+ thread.

Have we got any authority to make decisions like this? I mean, doesn't the CTBUH officiate over things like this?

if you take supertalls below 300 down a forum it will only over crowd that forum.

the buildings gotta stay somewhere, might as well keep them where they are.

btw, option 2 currenty winning with 60.64% plus or minus 6%, 19 times out of 20. certainlly statistically significant.

400m isn't really that much taller than 300m when you see two similar buildings next to each other. A "megatall" forum for buildings over 500m would be cool, as 500m is much taller than 300m (I'm talking in ratios here)

beauty and design is much more important than height

Don't get me wrong... I LOVE very tall buildings. However, so many amazing skyscrapers are well below 1,000 feet tall. We have all gotten to the point where "who is the tallest" has taken over our sense of urban design and how buildings fit into their surroundings.

I live in chicago but personally I do NOT like the Sears Tower at all. The Jewelers building is much more beautiful to me. Dubai and many of the Chinese cities lack any harmony and are making many of the mistakes US cities did in the mid century. All these giant towers with no street life and no real variety in style nor heights makes for a bizarre futurescape better left to sci-fi movies than a real "city" on planet Earth.

Lets stop encouraging these ridiculous races to be the tallest. It's all F'ing stupid. Whip out your weenies and measure those instead

high rises should not surpass 200m high but every governement wants to build a landmark for its era. It's just a modern version of Pyramid, Great Wall, etc.

depressio- we are the authority on tall bldgs! its our forum.
anyway we should do one or the other.
leave 300m as supertall and create another category for 500m+
that way we free up the many threads crowding the supertall section.
or create a construction section only and lump half of them in there while others are in proposed section.

maybe height as a certain status achieved. like
ESB height of 381m = supertall
or Chrysler 319m?
Sears Tower 442m= megatall

This is the best solution i think^There are a lot of buildings of per example 70 m that are architectural very exciting. Whit skyscrapers of 150m up to 300 or 400m. Than you have a bigger scale of skyscrapers of the whole world (more mixed).

Well, I'd repeat my proposal:

Lowrise <75m
Highrise 76-150m
Skycraper 151-500m (pretty much all the 'classic skycrapers' such as Sears Tower, Petronas Towers etc.)
Supertall 501-750m
Megatall >751m

I think this makes sense. Maybe Supertalls could also be >400m, maybe "Megatalls" could begin at 700m - if you count the antennas/spires of towers like the Sears Tower or the old WTC they could be classified as Supertalls whether you begin at >400m or >500m.

The difference between blds of 150 anf 500 m is very big - 3 times difference
The difference between bldns of 500 and 750 is not so big - only 1.5 times difference.
Your proposition is not good
