Everything’s Big at Biggs Diner
There’s this restaurant in Naga City that never fail to amuse me – Biggs Diner. They serve huge portions of meal at an affordable price and after years of being away from home, I still crave for their food. I remember the very first branch of Biggs Diner, themed in the 1960’s, and the staff were in roller skates serving food. It was so cool back then that the restaurant became a hit among the locals and guests, especially during the Penafrancia festivities. ![]() Yesterday was my first time at the SM City Naga and it was fulfilling. I almost freaked when I saw they had Biggs Diner at the mall. So after I did what I came for at the mall, I decided to dine at Biggs with my family. Biggs Diner’s exterior was so inviting and when I stepped inside the restaurant, it instantly brought memories back, they have designed their mall branch close to the original interiors minus the juke box and staff in roller skates. When I titled this post, I meant it literally food-wise. http://www.foodbanquet.com/ |

BIGG'S
![]() Pork Cordon Bleu, Php 149.00 ![]() Spaghetti Platter, Php 129.00 ![]() Meal Deal, Php 129.00 ![]() Halo Halo, Php 70.00 It’s been years since I had my taste of Biggs Diner meals, and when I had my favorite Meal Deal, it still tasted the same. The chicken was so tender and yummy, the barbeque still had the same aroma I used to love, and the Spaghetti is still something to die for. I was so full after eating and every peso spent is really worth it. For first time visitors of Naga City, I strongly suggest Biggs Diner. It’s a neat place to unwind and be full at the same time. http://www.foodbanquet.com |

Kandingga, The Bicolano Bopis
![]() When it comes to home cooked meals, nothing beats my Auntie’s cooking. Though I tried to replicate her cooking, I must admit mine doesn’t come close – well, my cooking is my own version. I’ve tried some of my Aunt’s recipe except Bopis, in my hometown this dish is called Kandingga. Bopis or Kandingga is made of pig’s heart cooked in vinegar. We also add water spinach stalks (kangkong stalks) as extender but I say it lessens the sourness of vinegar in the dish. The Manila version is way too different from the Bicol version, aside from the water spinach, we don’t add atsuete as coloring – in fact, we never add any food color add at all. We want to keep the dish’ natural color, the green-ness of the leaves act as accent to make it more presentable. And if the dish is Bicolano made, it’s made even hotter with sili, just enough to make one do the “huufff” sound. From the photo, it really looks appetizing, taste-wise it’s perfect. By the way, the pork heart is cut into tiny cubes or pieces, almost same size as the jewelry beads. And the spinach stalks are cut into ring-size portions. It’s so yummy that I was able to finish 3 servings, all with cup full of rice. http://www.foodbanquet.com |

Naga City’s Famous Toasted Siopao
When people think of Bicol Region, the first thing that comes to their mind is “Sili” or pepper. Coconut milk or “gata” dishes also comes next. But did you know that Naga City in Camarines Sur (CamSur) offers more than sili or gata? Let me introduce you to our toasted siopao! Naga Garden Restaurant serves the best toasted siopao in the city. ![]() I grew up having them as snack or merienda, and whenever I travel it serve as my baon and pasalubong to friends. Some often freak when they hear about toasted siopao and this post aims to prove them that there really is a a food called toasted siopao. It’s prepared the same way the traditional siopao is then baked to cook instead of steam. Every bite makes one wanting for more and I say 2 or 3 of it will make a you really full. ![]() Since toasted siopao is so popular, people usually call Naga Garden Restaurant a day to have some reserved for them. Though other restaurants in the city sells them, nothing beats the original at Naga Garden Restaurant. It costs Php 18.00 per piece and it’s a must-try for first timers visiting the city. A few days from now will be September, those joining the pilgrimage for Our Lady of Penafrancia, I suggest that you try toasted siopao, it will leave you addicted and craving for more. I think a few years back, I read an article published about it but I have to dig in my magazine racks to find it. Naga Garden Restaurant is located at Evangelista St., Naga City or Centro near Plaza Quezon. To have your toasted siopao reserved, you may call them for advance order at 811-8805. Happy Eating! http://www.foodbanquet.com |
