For more skyscraper news, Leeds is expecting another skyscraper proposal shortly from ian simpson architects who designed the Lumiere and Criterion towers above. Also SOM architects are currently designing a project for the city as well which will include many apartments and an 'international quality hotel'.

Both projects are developed by west properties

check out these websites for further details.

Thanks guys, now all we have to do is wait for them all to start. Having said that 2007 has already been the best year in terms of construction and project approval, the future looks bright.

It Supposedly starts in January. It was originally proposed way back around 2001 i think but there were huge arguments between developers and owners of the adjacent Leeds Shopping Plaza but now they have agreed a deal and the Leeds shopping plaza now comes under the project so eventually this will be around 1 million square feet of shopping space. The designer of the roof is Spanish, i think it's Miralles or something.

Great news, Criterion place has had a height increase, from 47 storeys and 29 storeys to 53 and 33 storeys.

Quote:
The Proposal:
The proposed scheme is a mixed use development consisting of:
Approximately 27 000 square metres B1 office accommodation;
779 residential units in a range of sizes and types consisting of studio flats, one bedroom flats and two-bedroom flats;
Small number of ground floor retail/café/bar uses;
Hotel;
Casino;
Basement car parking.
The development would take the formed of two glazed towers, one 53 storey tower of residential accommodation with ground floor ancillary uses, and one 33 storey tower featuring four levels of hotel and ground floor ancillary uses. Either side of the pair of towers would be two glazed office blocks. Public realm consists of space to the railway viaduct arches, Sovereign Street and a covered space running north to south through the middle of the site.

Estimates would put it at about 180m so it would be tallest by 8m!
