Good to see Leeds here- theres some renders on this thread I haven't seen before so thats pleasing! There are many amazing proposals and constructions for Leeds at the moment, but if none of them happened, Leeds would still be a mind blowing city with its 24hr cosmopolitan buzz and metropolitan but friendly atmosphere. The best thing about Leeds; the London-esque feel of the City Centre is 20 minutes away from some of the most awe-inspiring natural landscapes in Europe.

Great little thread going on here, hadn't seen it before, but good summary for the rest of the world to see.

This thread isn't going to turn into a population discussion, its to provide a brief summary of some of the great projects going on. Well done columbus.

Its good to have this on the world forum again, as Leeds deserves to be, as its prominence in the English and European economy continues to rise along with its skyline!!!

Lumiere and Criterion should be statements of 21st century Leeds and the can-do attitude. Bridgewater Place is a good addition marking the dawning of New Leeds I think, and I don't think it has a provincial look that some new builds have. A great building and great statement of Leeds' financial position.

Nice image from the river of some cranes and the Opal tower going up. We count 29 in total on the whole Leeds skyline!

I have lived in leeds all my life and love this city & the changes happening to it at the moment. For too many years we had a mundane boring skyline and i am glad we are finally getting some great buildings.

Well, it was 35 years ago, until they corrected the boundary.

It is 450,000 by the same logic that says Manchester United don't play in Manchester

Thats right leonardhenry, the city extended its area in 1974 to include a number of towns such as Wetherby, Morley, Pudsey. The population is now720,000 withinin the city boundaries and controlled by Leeds City Council. Metro area approx 1.5m. It makes Leeds the third largest city in the UK after London and Birmingham.

Just to add, the developments here look fantastic. For anyone who has not visited Leeds over the last 10-15 years, it is unrecognisable.

We are very lucky to have a Council who is "tall" building friendly and actually encouraged the development of skyscrapers. In the UK there are many Council's who are suspicious of building tall for fear of ruining our generally lowrise skylines.

Some renders produced for bankside on kirkstall road. The towers in the renders are being designed by SOM architects but i don't think they are the final designs.

Fantastic projects. I was in Leeds in fall 2005. I doubt I would recognize the place today. Leeds was my favorite city in England that I visited; I'll have to make plans to return once a number of these projects are finished. Great stuff.
