SSC Birthday Tribute - hkskyline's Skyscrapers & Cities

Here is my birthday tribute to SSC - 42 photos from my skyscraper travels around the world.

Skyscrapers & Cities

1. One Island East, Hong Kong - a forgotten giant that is rising in a secondary commercial district and surrounded by not-so-tall residential housing from the 1980s. They didn't build as tall back then.

2. London's skyscraper contrasts

3. Living well in New York with a view.

4. Shenzhen's rise

5. Shanghai surprise

6. Skyscraper on the floor

7. CCTV rises!!!

8. Classic Chrysler

9. On the other side of the water ...

10. Sleek

11. Can't forget Chicago from a skyscraper showcase!

12. A classic Chicago skyscraper

13. Neon

14. Daring designs in the SEZ

15. Beijing awakens to the Olympics

16. Which design do you like?

17. Let's wait for the bus a little longer.

18. Let's taxi for a little longer.

19. Let's do a holding pattern just a little longer.

20. A beautiful Berlin spring day.

21. Scary - skyscrapers and sand storm.

22. A Shanghai sunset.

23. Bold expression

24. Tall tale

25. Red skyscrapers do look nice if done right.

26. Vancouver's very interesting condominium landscape.

27. Shanghai already looks different by now. This photo isn't so old actually.

28. Reflections

29. The city at your doorstep.

30. Tall

31. Detroit's rebirth

32. Sweet ...

33. More reflections

34. Tradition & modernity

35. Sprawl?

36. Contrast

37. WOW

38. Koala-inspired towers

39. Weird to see this in Korea.

40. What a roof!

41. Do you live somewhere in there?

42. Of course, this should end with an entry from New York ...

Looking forward to bringing you more of the world for many more birthdays.

Happy Birthday, SSC!

Ah ... another year already. How time flies. Here are some more photos from my skyscraper travels of late.

1. I finally made it to Taipei 101. The views were OK - Taipei isn't a major skyscraper city otherwise. But seeing a damper was very exciting ... don't think the public can usually get a chance to see something like that in a skyscraper.

3. Skyscrapers are not easy to find in Bratislava's old town, but they are visible in the surrounding areas.

4. I specifically went to Gold Coast one weekend to see Q1 and admire the views out of its observation deck.

6. It's got that Simcity feel.

7. I like these old and new contrasts ... this one is from Brisbane.

8. I tried very hard to get this shot of cable car + suburban skyscrapers in Hong Kong right.

9. Ahh .. the famous Vietnamese beef noodle soup I had at Diamond Plaza in Ho Chi Minh City.

11. Just over 10 stories ... it is a skyscraper ... one of my favourites and most unique - in Copenhagen.

12. Hopping across the water to Malmo, I got to see another one of my favourites - Turning Torso - up close and personal. Too bad there's no observation deck though.

15. This is Hong Kong, where construction never stops and the city is always building.

16. Welcome to Sydney on a cloudy day.

Welcome to Sydney on a sunny day.

18. I didn't realize London had so much construction happening! So many cranes in the City!

19. Macau's sparkling new Lisboa extension certainly got my 'wow'.

20. Celebrating peace in San Francisco.

21. But the pyramid is the one that steals the show.

22. Seoul has quite a few buildings that I really like, including this supposedly simple one with an unexpected simple cut.

23. Kaohsiung has one of those really dominant skyscrapers that dwarfs everything else in the city.

Happy Birthday, SSC!

A lot of it is corporate travel these days ... thankfully not out of my own pocket.

Not really. It's a SAMSUNG ad banner and you can even see the Taipei101 on the extreme left (which curtain wall was installed by Samsung)

Surprising would actually be the fact that you haven't visited the place yourself. Strange ...
