![]() Route 89 is going to be total crap now. Only one bus running the circuit every hour. Goes to show how dismal ridership is on the route. I've rode the 89 many times and most of the time, the bus was empty.

BRT Survey
HART wants commuters to complete a survey regarding its BRT plan.

![]() That's cool. I don't have enough determination to complete the survey. ![]() My conscience tells me that busses don't matter anymore b/c I have my own vehicle now. Plus I do not travel any of the corridors that will carry the BRT routes. I only travel on Dale Mabry (south of Hillsborough) regularly to commute to school. Perhaps I will change my mind later...

![]() I agree, it is kind of lame that they would have a template available online, only for it to be mailed in. There are quite a few online survey/questionnaire companies that HART could have consulted to create an online survey. Oh well, I guess they did what was more economical for them.

Well, we should be lucky that they can be attained so easily. Most agencies in the area only give them to you if you go to the meeting or write to them. I received one from PCPT after emailing them, then I had to print it, complete it, and either mail or scan it and email it...so I mailed it. I think it is great we have it at all, that we can participate without being there in person.

HARTline ridership continues to rise
By Times Staff Writer Published December 4, 2007 TAMPA High gas prices appear to be driving people to try buses. Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority, which oversees the county's public bus system, reported an 11 percent jump in October ridership, compared with October 2006. Ridership reached 1.07-million trips, the highest tally on record. Just think how high ridership would be if we had a decent system in place! I still say a DESPERATELY needed route is a circulator that goes up and down Dale Mabry....all day, and with stops that at LEAST have a bench, preferably a small shelter. It is sad that one of the most used roads in Tampa does not have a transit option...

At one time, there was even a route that went up and down MacDill Ave - Route 17. I guess low ridership killed it off though.

A brief look at some of HART's defunct routes
I found an old press release on HART's website listing route changes. http://www.hartline.org/departments/...10-19-2001.htm
I found it interesting because it lists some bus routes that no longer exist, perhaps due to financial problems and low ridership. ![]() So I made this map...
Route 81 I guess was the "original" connector route for South Tampa, but there is no evidence of which roads it went on.

![]() Cutting the ribbon: Ricardo Roig, HART Board Chair; Commissioner Rose Ferlita, HART Board member; Shelton Quarles, TBARTA Chair; David Armijo, HART CEO; Jeanette Fenton, West Tampa CRA manager Tampa, FL - November 27, 2007 - Next to Raymond James Stadium, on the site of the old Tampa Bay Center mall, an important link to the future of rapid transit in Tampa is about to serve its first passengers. It is the West Tampa Transfer Center, and HART dedicated it today at 10:30 a.m. The new transfer center is part of the revitalization of the historic West Tampa area, and will one day be a stop on the East/West route of HART's planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which will whisk passengers between Temple Terrace and the Tampa International Airport. HART has used this facility as a transfer center since the mid-1970s, when the site housed the now-demolished Tampa Bay Center. The West Tampa Transfer Center will serve the following six routes which carry more than 6,000 HART riders each weekday: Route 7 – West Tampa/Citrus Park Route 32 – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Route 36 – Dale Mabry/Himes Ave. (streetside stop on Himes) Route 41 – Sligh Ave. Route 44 – UATC/Habana/Westshore Plaza Route 45 – UATC/Rome/Westshore Plaza On hand to cut the ribbon on the WTTC were HART Board Chair Ricardo Roig, HART Board member and Hillsborough County Commissioner Rose Ferlita, Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority Chair Shelton Quarles, HART CEO David Armijo, and West Tampa Community Redevelopment Area manager for the City of Tampa Jeanette Fenton. The facility includes a 1,100 square-foot building containing passenger and driver amenities, plus nine loading/staging bays with one bus bay on Himes Avenue. It also has three shelters with canopy system, and utilizes the building overhang as shelter for two more bus loading areas. I do not have the online copy but I read in the Tampa Bay Business Journal that HART is seeking $40million in federal money next week. The money would be used to expand local service, and expand the TECO line to whiting street (some of that money has been secured already though). Apparently part would be used for the E/W BRT route too, right now HART only has the money for the N/S BRT route....

West Tampa Transfer Center Update
It seems that the center has only been dedicated and has NOT YET gone into full operation. I drove past there earlier this morning and saw that the busses are still using the old canopies. Perhaps the facility is undergoing some final touches before opening. I assume it will be open by next week though. I will update everyone on Sunday or Monday as to what the status is.
