Just imagine it in 15 years with the rain stains and dirty windows... it's an absolute eyesore in the making.

It's just tastless, from the messed up proportions to the daggy font they used (btw you don't have to write the name of a tower on a tower, ppl will figure it out).

I'll settle for tacky. Birmingham can afford to be. Rather be an interesting city and unique then one of many.

Oh and they have cleaners.

I think its a cool idea.

Ok its not the best looking thing in the world, but its not the worse, and i like the colour scheme

I think the main point of this tower is to bring entertainment, not stunning architecture, and by looking at the video, i think it will do that.

Well it worked in las vegas with less attractions, and Birmingham having a bigger poulation than Las Vegas it will work.

And so the followers all follow the leader like a moth to a flame with the 'it's ugly/already dated comment' I think it looks fine the way it is although I'd straighten out the bottom part of the base a little.

Well from the responses, it appears that many more people agree with my opinion than yours

200m isn't that big. A lot of people climb higher than that every single day.
People climb all over the top of this thing all the time.

Any way, I'm not going to turn this into a city v city thread. Obviously you like this proposal, so I'm happy for you. All I'm saying is that it would suit the Blackpool pleasure beach or some soviet era nuclear testing facility turned theme park more than a city trying to advertise itself as a vibrant, dynamic, entertaining city.

It's high for the UK. We have a height limit set by the Civil Aviation Authority, this building is more than 50m over the limit.

It's the largest scheme in the UK. Expected that over ú10bn ($20bn US) to be spent. VTP200 will cost around ú100m, a small part of the project.

City thing, not many people climb 200m or higher each day. And climbing to the top is not walking up steps. Its sort of rock climbing. And also it would not suite Blackpool. Just because its a poor mans Las Vegas does not mean that it needs a stratoshphere like Las Vegas.

Oh and the tower has been designed to enable it to change the rides once they've reached the end of thier life cycle so it continually evolves and stays at the head of the game. A reason to keep going up City_Thing.

I've always wanted an indoor/outdoor water park in my downtown. The tower will be good if it is maintained and people use it. The last time I went to the stratosphere in Las Vegas it was dirty and shabby and more or less deserted which made a really bad impression.

It's not that it's not high, it will be very high for england, but what an eyesore to have visible from the whole city. Would work ok in vegas, maybe even dubai, but in a major UK city, it will look terrible. Birmingham is not a tourist attraction, it's not even blackpool, this should not get built until there are enough tall towers to hide it.

In the context of the huge developments in the pipeline for Birmingham, this looks like a very good project. It is good to see the city is acting more like the sprawling metropolis that it is and trying to achieve its own exciting identity while shaking off the boring dull tag. As the UK's second largest city I wish it all the best.

How can you say Birmingham is not a Tourist attraction. The fact that it has one of the largest shopping malls in europe, a larger canal network than venice and tonnes of new development happening write in the city centre. Oh no that dont attract tourists.

I dont think Nezzybaby's fully aware of where this development is located and its aim. I think its fair to say as Brummies we understand its site much better then outsiders which is the reason we find this project so unbelievably exciting.

Inturn. Its also safe to say others find it unfortunate something like this is'nt being planned for thier city which makes it easy to pan Birmingham for being innovative and original.

I've never seen anyone in Birmingham from further north than Newcastle or south than London, lets be fair its hardly an internationally recognised tourist destination. People visiting this country will go to London first, then places like Edinburgh, Stratford-upon-avon, maybe even Blackpool, but no-one thinks of Birmingham as a must see tourist attraction.

It doesn't matter where this is being built, at a height of 200m it will be visible from most of birmingham.
