People always seem to have these bizarre notions that it's either the most drop-dead amazing place on the planet or some kind of inner ring of Hell from Dante's Inferno. For whatever reason, it doesn't seem to inspire a lot of moderate opinions.

Reality, though, is that it's a big city with all the usual pluses and minuses you'd find in ANY big city on a day-to-day basis. It's the nature of the beast.

Seriously, this may be a tangent but can anybody think of a big city---even the greatest ones like New York or Tokyo or whatever---that don't include a plethora of negatives? A city wouldn't be a city without them, frankly, unless it was some kind of nightmarish Nazi version where everybody got on efficiently timed trains and dressed neatly for state-approved cultural excursions.

So of course Miami is fucked up in many ways. It's also great. So is every other city that's interesting.
I love this rant, Spell....my sentiments exacty (as u know). But what I am truly curious about is what you went back to edit...!?!?! Did u take something out---or add...lol

I actually got scared reading that because I had no memory of it...and then saw it was from over three years ago (whew! thought I was losing it!)

Probably edited out something about Telly Savalas or Opa-Locka.

If money wasnt an issue somewhere in brickell penthouse of the four seasons sounds just nice

But with $400,000 i would much rather buy a 4 bedroom, 3 bath familyroom 2 car garage etc house somewhere in kendall, doral, pinecrest, which are good areas, not as glam as east miami but still good.

Where u want to live in miami also depends on what type of lifestyle your looking for, you could live in south beach, brickell, or down town making $2,000 a month easily if u live on your own, and basically live paycheck to paycheck. But even with a good income if you have a family especially children you would most likely end up in the suburbs, a nice house if your lucky nowadays....

Most of the people living in east miami brickell, downtown, the beaches dont have many kids, and if they do most likely very well off, nonetheless i think people with families end up in the more suburban areas.

Miami: Best and Worst places to live

A lot of times, when people think about Miami, the first thing that comes to their minds is its beaches and the hot weather. Miami (Dade) has a lot of nice places and some not so nice. Which are neighborhoods that you would consider to be good and bad?

Note: If you live in those areas what would you say it is good and bad about it?

That's actually late 90s. I watched Two Tequesta go up from my South Beach balcony.

Hi all. Instead of opening another thread I am going to post here.
I am moving to Tavares, FL for few months on a job assignment. I have been to FL, Miami area, many times, but have never visited central part of state. Can anyone tell me more about that area, what is there to do. I am doing some research on web too, and it seems like an ordinary suburban town. Thanks in advance.

^Tavares is suburban, but close to some interesting towns like Mt Dora and the lakes region in Lake County. You'll probably spend more of your time there.

You also are not far from Wekiva Springs State Park. Orlando is about 30 minutes away.

If you like golf, you're in the right place. Aside from staying local, you can head back south and east on 441 or take 19 or 27 (I think) to the TNPK back to central Orlando.

If you are an outdoors enthusiast I would HIGHLY recommend looking into adventure racing. The local group that plans them is great, the best in the state. AR is a great activity that includes paddling, trekking, and off road biking.

Below is the web link for the group that plans the races.
